China’s short-term economic downturn was worse than expected. The Third Plenary Session of the
18th CPC stated that “the market shall play a decisive role in economic growth.” And the 2014
Central Economic Work Conference for the first time systematically expounded the specific
content of the “new normal”. Will there be a hard landing for China’s economy? Are there any
new factors to sustain the country’s economy going forward? Will that lead to changes in the
traditional economic growth pattern and new macroeconomic policy trends? Specifically, what is
the role of RMB internationalisation as a backdrop to the “new normal”?
