HAPSA Election 2012-2013 Nominees
Anna Sophia Bush
1. Year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Junior
 HAP major, Business Minor
 VP of Finance
2. A fun blurb about you.
I have a younger sister named Rachel who is going to nursing school starting in the fall. My
life goal is to be a pharmacist and own a teacup pig named Darcy. My favorite color is
Green. I currently work at CUMC as a pharmacy tech.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
I would like to help better the HAPSA organization and contribute to its success. I want to
get members more involved, have more events, and enhance the value that HAPSA can give
its members. Organized finances is key to the success of an organization and I would be able
to keep our budget organized.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills
and/or experiences)
As VP of Finance I could help keep all of our finances in order and budget for fun events.
I have experience budgeting and keeping track of finances as a member of Tri Delta's
philanthropy committee as well as experience planning events on a small budget. These
skills as well as the ones I have learned through my business classes make me a great
candidate for this position. I also manage the finances of the girls I live with which has
been a valuable real world experience.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
I think HAPSA events offer great advice and opportunities to members, but those need to
be better conveyed and also scheduled at times that are convenient for the most members.
Many of the HAP classes are offered as night classes that conflict with the meetings
which is something that needs to be considered. It would also be fun to do some sort of
networking event with local administrators and other people to help make connections
for internships and jobs.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
I would want to be working as a hospital pharmacist. Or a professional travel writer,
either or :)
Ramil Goonetilleke
1. Year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Junior
 HAP Major, Business Administration Minor
 President, VP of Programming
2. A fun blurb about you.
I am a really easy going and laid back person but I know how to get things done! I like
things ordered and organized and feel as though I would be a great asset to the HAPSA
organization. I am passionate about everything I do, and I am hoping to share that passion
with members as we build on what HAPSA already does well and needs work on.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
I am interested in running for the positions of president and VP of programming because
I feel as though I would make a great leader and would be able to contribute to HAPSA
in many ways. Becoming involved is critical in developing a relationship with fellow
classmates and creating connections; being president or VP of programming is the next
step in becoming involved. Helping others is always a goal of mine and by being an
executive I will be able to organize opportunities in which members can succeed and
prepare for future aspirations.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
As a leader and initiator it is my vision to further expand HAPSA and create an
organization that students can reach out to for support and a vast amount of information.
I am a very motivated and determined person which will be beneficial to establishing a
successful organization. Bringing in speakers has been a valuable tool to all members.
These people not only talk about their experiences and paths of life but provide important
connections that can be utilized in order to further our own paths. This is something I
would definitely continue as an executive. Something else that I am excited about is a
project I am working on in conjunction with Dr. Jameton of UNMC. As a leading figure
in healthcare and energy sustainability, he is very knowledgeable on the subject. We have
started research on developing an energy sustainability system at City Sprouts. Power
would be generated through the use of solar, wind, or water. This project will develop
administrative skills as well as provide insight as to the basics of energy conservation. I
am a firm believer that energy utilization is the next step in creating a cleaner and
healthier environment for generations to come.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
HAPSA is a successful organization but there is always room for improvement. I would
like to have more meetings in which students can express exactly what they want from
HAPSA and possibly supply them with more options. This could mean options as to who
will be speaking throughout the year or how time and resources should be spent. One
thing I would definitely like to coordinate is a volunteer opportunity that we can all do
together. This would be a fun activity to get to know each other better but more
importantly will contribute to our community. As students in the healthcare field, I am
confident in saying it is everyone’s goal to help others! Lastly, I would like to develop a
better system of communication in which those seeking information can rely upon.
Setting up a website solely dedicated to HAPSA would help open lines of
communication. The Creighton University based HAPSA website can be used as a
foundation for a more advanced and in-depth website. Not only will it provide
information on the Health Administration & Policy major itself but also contact
information of speakers and HAPSA executives, relevant volunteer opportunities,
upcoming events/meetings, etc.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
If I could be in absolutely any profession right now I would be a Formula 1 driver. This
may seem a little farfetched but I have always been infatuated with cars since I was little.
I love the thrill of going fast and would not be disappointed in driving a Ferrari every
day!

We collaborate well together and are efficient with our work. We also have great ideas
for the upcoming fall and already have speakers and events in mind. We both have a
passion for HAPSA and have grown into better leaders.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
Besides bringing enthusiasm and experience, we would provide valuable knowledge to
HAP majors or minors since we’ve about completed the HAP major requirements. We’ve
both also had multiple internships, which has broadened our horizons within the
healthcare industry. We would be able to share our experiences and connections in and
out of the classroom, which could benefit the under classmen. Overall, we enjoy
interacting and mentoring new HAP majors and minors.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
Like we’ve previously stated before, we have come up with future events and speakers
for the fall. We already know multiple graduate programs that would love to come back
and speak with potential students like ourselves. We can also continue to promote and
recruit students who are interested in the HAP program.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
Ashley: I love to eat, so it would be great to become a professional cook or taster!

I would continue to positively promote the HAP program and recruit new students who

HAPSA Executive team, I would fulfill any duties required of me in this position and
assist others in any way possible.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?

been a member of HAPSA since my freshmen year. These activities have helped to

these traits and experiences, I will have no problem completing any task required within
this position no matter how hard it might be. I am focused and know how to balance my
commitments regardless of a hectic schedule.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?

the whole Creighton community. I would try to recruit more people to join HAPSA by
planning a variety of new events, creating posters, and utilizing my business experience
to increase HAPSA awareness
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
If I could choose any profession at this moment, it will be that of an ER nurse. I enjoy
shadowing with nurses in the ER department. I thrive when working under pressure and
in a fast-paced environment. The reward of having made a difference for someone as well
as the realization of the significance a small act can have on a person, family, or friend,
motivate my actions. I love the interaction with people from all walks of life and learn as
much as possible to understand others more. With these skills and experiences I hope to
contribute to the continuing growth of the HAPSA program, and make an impact for
everyone involved.

c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
Health care is one of the fastest growing fields and not only that but it is also extremely
broad field. HAP majors can go into a variety of fields from administration to

possibilities.

1. Year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Junior
 HAP Major, Business and Public Health Minor
 VP of Administration and Marketing, VP of Information Technology
2. A fun blurb about you.
I love learning new things everyday and being someone who is part of making positive
changes.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
VP of Administration and Marketing:
I have always been appealed to any position related to Marketing or Public Relations
because I enjoy promoting any efforts of an organization with good intentions. I am
familiar with working with SAO and I enjoy organizing events and ensuring tasks are
carried out so that each meeting and/or event is a success.
VP of Information Technology:
I am an organized person who is already capable of web design and attention to details.
Prior experiences as Secretary and as a Public Relations Exec for other student
organizations make me feel confident about carrying out the duties of this position. I also
look forward to being able to communicate more directly with fellow HAP majors and
being able to share resources and other opportunities with everyone in the organization.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
VP of Administration and Marketing:
I am a planner and someone who can communicate closely with peers, faculty and staff,
distinguished alumni, and other outside sources to form positive connections for the
benefit of the organization. I have experience with working with the SAO, getting
necessary paperwork done, and also being a student assistant for events like Admitted
Students’ Day for the Office of Undergraduate of Admissions.
VP of Information Technology:
I am innovative yet practical when it comes to graphic and web design. I am able to
customize anything to fit any purpose it needs to serve. Therefore, I’d be able to keep up
HAPSA’s website and Facebook pages as functional and appealing pages that keep
members up-to-date with not only HAPSA’s activities but also related HAP content,
opportunities, and other resources.

HAPSA member since sophomore year
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
I am an efficient user of GoogleDocs, which I believe would help keep everything
organized for HAPSA. I am sure it’s already used to a certain extent but I hope to keep
things consistent and use it for any necessary forms, surveys, presentations, and minutes
that need to be recorded. In addition, as I have mentioned I can help market HAPSA in
other student organizations and build alliances with other pre-health professional groups
since I believe HAP could be promoted even more as a second-major or complementary
minor. I look forward to keeping the HAPSA website up-to-date and referred to more
often.
We could possibly engage more of our members by establishing a monthly activity.
Perhaps a trivia question or a specific activity could be presented via e-mail, on the
website, and Facebook page at the beginning of each month and it would ask members to
either find out more about something HAP related (i.e., How do you become a student
ACHE member?) and if they are the first to submit their answer or show proof of activity
then they can get an incentive before a new question or prompt is posted for the next
month.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
At this point, I would like to be a healthcare marketing director. Since I highly enjoyed
being a public relations person for various organizations and also being exposed to the
actual work environment as an intern, I feel that I would be excited about networking
with more healthcare professionals and interacting with people who share the same
passion as I do. I am also constantly thinking about new ways to get people’s attention
when it comes to advertising an event or product, which would allow me to continue to
think creatively.
Olivia Shope
1. Year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Sophomore
 Undeclared, Prospective HAP major, French minor
 VP of Membership Development, VP of Information Technology, VP of
Administration and Marketing
2. A fun blurb about you.
I’m from Raleigh, North Carolina and have loved my time here at Creighton. I’m a Tri
Delta and have loved getting to know people through that and it has allowed me to take
chances and try new leadership opportunities. I’ve also been involved with Creighton
Theater and hope to have more opportunities with that as well. I’m excited to hopefully
be considered for one of these positions.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
I wasn’t exactly sure which position I would be the best fit for at the moment so I put
down the ones in which some part of the description caught my attention. I would love to
be involved with this organization in order to make connections and network with my
fellow HAP majors. HAP is something I’m very interested in and I think it’s important to
make connections with the areas one is excited about.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
I would bring a continued sense of organization to HAPSA as well as my excitement for
the area and a quiet confident leadership ability. I’ve had experience leading small group
discussions as well as planning events for a high school club I was involved with. I’d also
consider myself to be a fast learner and would be willing to learn whatever the particular
position would require.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
I think HAPSA should be a little more accessible to those in the process of becoming a
HAP major as well as catering to those who know for certain what their plans are. I liked
that a few members of HAPSA stopped by my HAP 200 class to introduce themselves
this semester and to give us some background about the organization. I also haven’t seen
their sponsored events advertised very much, and I’m sure others would benefit from
hearing from the speakers or partaking in any other HAPSA sponsored event, if possible.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
I’m still not exactly sure what I’d like to do with HAP, but one possibility I’ve been
thinking about is being an administrator for an AIDS focused organization. For some
reason, I’ve always been drawn to this issue and would hope to be involved in bettering
the lives somehow for its victims. Nowadays, patients should still know that there are
resources available to them and to encourage them to learn about prevention and how to
live well regarding the circumstances. Overall, I really want to do something in which I
will be truly benefiting the people I work for, for the better.

1. Year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Junior
 HAP major, Business Administration minor
 VP of Membership Development
2. A fun blurb about you.
I was born and raised in Omaha Nebraska and have lived here ever since. I am a HUGE
Husker football fan but also definitely a Jay’s fan when it comes to every other sport.
Both my parents are nurses and they are a huge reason why I have pursued my own
interests in Healthcare Administration. A few of my hobbies include swimming, trap
shooting, and cooking. The most important things in my life are: God, family, country.
When I say family I mean my parents, two brothers, and the brothers of Phi Delta Theta
fraternity.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
VP of Membership Development
The reason I would like to run for this position is two fold. First and foremost I see it as a
way to give back to the Healthcare Administration Policies (HAP) program and
recruitment is the most important part of any organization. After realizing that the premed
program was not for me but still wanting to be a healthcare professional I stumbled upon
the HAP program. The HAP program was my savior at Creighton and put me on a path
that will allow me to be successful in the future workplace while still fulfilling my
passion for healthcare. I want to bring this passion to the HAPSA executive team and
work to recruit members who have the same passion for the HAP program.
VP of Finance
The reason I am running for this position is because finance and handling finances has
always come natural for me. I have held a steady job since I was seventeen and had to
manage my own personal finances ever since. During this same time I purchased my first
car. By doing so I built great credit and at the end of this year my car will be paid off.
Besides my personal experiences with finance I have also taken a few finances classes
while at Creighton and have the skills to do this position.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
VP of Membership Development
I am confident in my ability to relate well with students who are looking for another way
into the healthcare field without becoming a nurse or a doctor. One of the best
experiences I have had during my time at Creighton is being a Welcome Week Guide and
helping new students get associated with Creighton. I would bring the skills I learned
through that experience to this position and use them to help students get associated with
HAPSA.
VP of Finance
I am confident that I could not only do all the duties of VP of Finance but I also possess
qualities that would allow me to be an asset to the future HAPSA executive team. I have
had a lot of experience working and leading a team through out high school and college. I
would use these experiences and skills to not only do the VP of Finance position but be a
team player and help other executives if need be.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
I would just first like to say that the current HAPSA executive team has done an excellent
job this past year and improved HAPSA as an organization on Creighton’s campus. One
of the things that I would work on improving is getting more HAPSA members at events
to give the HAPSA organization a more communal feeling. The more members that know
each other and feel like they are a part of the HAPSA organization the better it will be to
be a member.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and
why?
This is a hard question for me to answer because ever since committing myself to the
HAP major I haven’t really thought about any other professions that I would really want
to do otherwise I would be pursuing them. However if I could I would love to be an
Olympic Swimmer or an NBA basketball player.
Lauren Wong
1. Your name, year, major/minor, and the position you are running for.
 Junior
 HAP major, Business and Public Health Minor
 VP of Programming
2. A fun blurb about you.
People watching is one of my main hobbies, but more importantly I enjoy sitting down
and chitchatting with all my friends.
3. a. Why are you interested in running for this position?
VP programming is a position that I’d be interested in running for. Working close with
the previous VP Programming this year, I have gained information about this specific
position. I also helped plan an event this past year by inviting the University of Iowa’s
MHA Graduate Program and Eric Mooss (Administrator) to speak on campus. I enjoy
networking and I know I’d be able to help put on multiple events next year that be
beneficial to HAP majors and minors.
b. What could you bring to HAPSA next year in this position? (ex: skills and/or
experiences)
As well as my previous experience on HAPSA, serving as Pi Beta Phi’s current Chapter
President I believe I’ve gained valuable lessons that I can apply to next year’s HAPSA
exec team. I will be able to share I am very dedicated in everything that I do and don’t
like to let others down. I know that I will be able to speak to other students about HAP
and what it has to offer; as well as setting up speeches and meeting with speakers and
visitors.
c. How could you improve and help make HAPSA a successful organization?
Previously serving on HAPSA’s exec team, there are a few new ideas that can be
implemented into the program. There are already speakers that would love to come back,
so as VP Programming I would be able to set up speakers ahead of time.
d. Fun question! If you could be in any profession right now, what would it be and why?
If I could I’d probably be a professional people watcher or fashion police!
