Laboratory Medicine, San Francisco, CA. Investigating the pathogenicity of tickborne pathogens and developing diagnostic techniques for emerging diseases.
• Development of the first high-density pan-tick pathogen microarray
• Development of metagenomic analyses to identify pathogens and host
biomarkers in the largest longitudinal dataset of acute Lyme disease patients
• Identifying the etiological agent of the newly emerging tick-borne disease,
Southern Tick-Associated Rash illness (STARi) using microarray and deep
sequencing analyses

Postdoctoral Associate on NSF funded grant: UC Berkeley and Cary Institute of
Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, NY. Investigated the dynamics of Lyme disease
through mathematical models and genetic diagnostic analyses.
 Development of deterministic models of Lyme disease risk as measured by the
density of infected ticks
 Phylogenetic and population genetic analyses of the Lyme disease bacterium
2008-2009
Graduate Student Researcher on NSF Ecology of Infectious Disease (EID)
grant: UC Berkeley, Department of Integrative Biology. Developed a 5-year NSF
EID grant and led the project in the field and lab.

Biology. Developed a research project examining the impact of habitat
fragmentation from an invasive plant species on the dynamics of Lyme disease
ecology.
 Developed protocols for field and lab experiments to study the interaction of a
plant pathogen and a vector-borne zoonotic disease
 Designed a quantitative real-time PCR assay for the Lyme disease bacterium
