Chartered Secretaries are amongst the highest paid in the UK
18 February 2010: Chartered Secretaries are the sixth highest paid employees in the UK according to
the Office for National Statistics Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. The average annual salary for
Chartered Secretaries is £58,295 and their earnings are ranked above those of senior officers in local
government, police officers, IT professionals and lawyers. Chartered Secretaries are increasingly in
demand because of their expertise in compliance and corporate governance.
David Wilson, ICSA’s Chief Executive comments: ‘Chartered Secretaries have a very broad range of
skills and more and more employers are recognising the commercial value of having a qualified
company secretary on board. A career as a Chartered Secretary is one of the most rewarding in
terms of the remuneration and the flexibility it can offer the individual.’
