Motivation
Groundwater mapping on a national scale
– Areas with special drinking water interests are mapped with respect
to resources and protection
– These areas cover 40 % (17.500 km2) of Denmark
Motivation
Groundwater mapping on a national scale
– Areas with special drinking water interests are mapped with respect
to resources and protection
– These areas cover 40 % (17.500 km2) of Denmark
– The mapping programme started in 1999 and will run until about 2015
– The programme is financed by a fee of 3 cents pr m3 of consumed
water
– The total cost is about 200 million Euro
– Of this is spent for about 50 million Euro on geophysical mapping
– The programme was administrated by the counties till 2007 and now
by 7 local offices of The Agency for Spatial and Environmental
Planning (Ministry of the Environment)
– The main part of the work is carried out by private companies
Motivation
TEM data
Data are collected
by ground based
systems since
1993
Data are collected
by the airborn
SKYTEM system
since 2003
TEM data cover
10,585 km2
Motivation
PACES data
Data are collected
by a mobile
resistivity system
1200 km PACEP
data are collected
until 1998
8700 km PACES
data are collected
since 1998
The data cover
about 2500 km2
Motivation
CVES data
Data are typical
collected with 5 m
electrode spacing

Jupiter database
In 1926 a well data archive for water
supply-related wells was founded at
the Geological survey. Later other
types of shallow wells are also
reported to the archive.
The wells are now registered in the
national database, Jupiter, hosted
by GEUS
The database contains information
about more than 300.000 boreholes

Summary
We have illustrated an integrated system for management
of hydrogeophysical data consisting of
– a high quality database for geophysical data
– a database for borehole information
– a program package for processing, inversion,
interpretation and visualisation
– a 3D visualisation and modelling program
The integrated system enables us to handle large
amounts of data collected over several years, in
different mapping campaigns and with different
geophysical methods.
