What makes DFW a Competitive Grocery Market?

Yet another new chain is popping up in DFW. On Friday, California based Trader Joe's
will open in Fort Worth and add its name to the long list of established stores already in
the metroplex. So what makes DFW so competitive?

Dr. Ritesh Saini, Assistant Marketing Prof, at the University of Texas at Arlington. He
says, "This area is one growth engine which has continued to show economic growth in
the past few years. When some of the other larger citiess, 1 million plus, have
stagnated."
Other factors that make it competitive are the population density and low cost in real
estate prices. But many still know little about the chain. Tiana Roussin says, "I've heard
it's basically like Central Market, a lot of health foods, things like that, brands that you
haven't heard about and it's cheaper."
Trader Joe's is known for having low prices, Ingrid Kelly says that might mean other
stores lower prices as well, "I think it will be good competition, help keep the prices
down, offer new things."
