 Identify the most representative aesthetics of the 20th century and
their main exponents.
 List the most important composers of the 20th century alongside their
invented techniques.
 Discuss the main innovations of contemporary music, recalling
specific 20th century masterpieces taught in class.
 Apply the theoretical knowledge attained in class by creating a series
of exercises that imitate the taught styles.
 Analyze the most important works of the 20th century and related
techniques used and comment on the significance of these
innovations.
 Compose short works of original music that show idiomatic writing for
instrumental and vocal groupings using the learned compositional
models as the starting point.
 Arrange for a performance of these works, making parts, booking
players and, if necessary, performing or conducting the new work.

The course will combine an experiential and practical demonstration of
new music and an intensive teaching of the most representative 20th
century compositional methods and theory.
