The majority of the deaths occurred among ages 35-54. The highest death rates per 100,000 population were among persons 40-54 years of age. For the white population, the highest death rate was in the 20-24 age group and peaks again among persons 45-49 years of age. In the African American population, the highest death rate started at a later age than whites; the highest death rate among African Americans was in ages 50-54. Among the Hispanic population, the highest death rate peaked at ages 20-24.
