Georgia Forestry Commission Pine Seedlings
“Select” Premium Slash Pine: A mix of the very best families “selected” from the Premium
Slash orchard providing an estimated 36% more volume on sites where fusiform rust hazard
is high. This elite family mix provides exceptional productivity and fusiform rust resistance
without sacrificing the protection of genetic diversity. Our best slash pine variety.
PC Resistant Slash Pine: Selected families from our Premium Slash orchard that have
demonstrated resistance to pitch canker in laboratory tests. Growth and fusiform rust
resistance are comparable to that of Select Premium Slash.
Premium Slash Pine: These seedlings are grown from 2-cycle seed orchard selections. Fast
growth and resistance to fusiform rust combine to provide 29% more volume than
unimproved (or wild) sources. Premium Slash is recommended for the entire natural range
of slash pine.
Rust Resistant Slash Pine: These advanced cycle seedlings are selected primarily for their
resistance to fusiform rust. Rapid growth is a secondary consideration in this variety. They
will show 50% of the infection of unimproved seedlings. They are well-suited for sites
where fusiform rust is known to be particularly severe.

RR3 Loblolly: This third-cycle, rust-resistant variety is also fast growing. These seedlings
receive 36% of the infection of unimproved loblolly. They will yield an estimated 21%
more volume at rotation age. RR3 Loblolly is an exceptional choice for planting in Central
and South Georgia.
“Select” RR3 Loblolly: This variety is formed by selecting only the very best families from
the RR3 population. These seedlings produce 26% more volume than unimproved sources
through rotation age without sacrificing any of the rust-resistance of the RR3 variety.
Piedmont3 Loblolly: These 3rd cycle seedlings are fast-growing and disease resistant. They
should be planted above the fall-line. Trees from this group are expected to produce 28%
more volume than unimproved sources and are moderately resistant to fusiform rust.
“Select” Coastal Loblolly: Selected families from our 1.5 Cycle orchard provide the seeds
for this variety. “Select” coastal loblolly should be planted in South Georgia and will yield
17% more volume than unimproved sources while providing moderate rust resistance.
