About Shenzhen
Located immediately north of HongKong, Shenzhen has grown from a small fishing village to a
11-million-people metropolitan and economic center in merely 30 years. It established many firsts
in the history of world industrialization, urbanization and modernization.
A picturesque coastal city, Shenzhen is a popular tourist destination in South China and has been
listed by the Chinese Government as an Excellent Tourist City. It was named one of the world's
31 must-see tourist destinations in 2010 by The New York Times.
Shenzhen is also well-known for design and has more than 6,000 design companies employing a
total of more than 60,000 people. On Nov. 19, 2008, Shenzhen was named a member of
UNESCO's Creative Cities Network and awarded the title of City of Design by UNESCO (United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
About Guangzhou
Guangzhou (Canton), a prosperous metropolis full of vigor, is the capital city of Guangdong
Province located along the south coastline of China. Being an excellent port on the Pearl River
navigable to the South China Sea, and with fast accessibility to Hong Kong and Macau,
Guangzhou serves as the political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural center in
Guangdong area.
About Hong Kong (external link: http://www.discoverhongkong.com)
Being an international financial center with the world's freest economy, Hong Kong is Asia's most
globally connected city. The central business district makes up one of the world's most beautiful
skylines, and with a closer look, one can see colonial buildings and modern architecture
competing for space and attention. Hong Kong is a densely populated city, but with over 60% of
the land left undeveloped, it offers a wide range of outlets for recreation, relaxation, and
exploration in the great outdoors.
Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region and is the primary gateway to mainland China.
Born of a fusion from ancient Chinese heritage and a long period of Western influence, this small
island is a cross-cultural and diversified city where English and Chinese, tai chi and soccer,
towering skyscrapers and historical sites all exist side by side. Here lies the bridge between the
East and the West.

About GuoHua — Chinese Traditional Painting
Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. The earliest
paintings were not representational but ornamental; they consisted of patterns or designs rather
than pictures.
Painting in the traditional style is known today in Chinese as guó huà, meaning 'national' or
'native painting', as opposed to Western styles of art which became popular in China in the 20th
century. Traditional painting involves essentially the same techniques as calligraphy and is done
with a brush dipped in black or colored ink; oils are not used. As with calligraphy, the most
popular materials on which paintings are made of are paper and silk. The finished work is then
mounted on scrolls, which can be hung or rolled up. Traditional painting also is done in albums
and on walls, lacquerwork, and other media.
About ShuFa — Chinese Calligraphy
As an important part of Chinese culture, Chinese calligraphy is a form of art. Through the medium
of form, way of handling the brush, presentation, and style, calligraphy as a work of art conveys
the moral integrity, character, emotions, esthetic feelings and culture of the artist to readers
affecting them by the power of appeal and the joy of beauty.
About BanHua — Chinese Woodblock Printing
Woodblock printing is a technique for printing text, images or patterns used widely throughout
East Asia and originating in China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later paper.
The wood block is carefully prepared as a relief matrix, which means the areas to show 'white' are
cut away with a knife, chisel, or sandpaper leaving the characters or image to show in 'black' at
the original surface level. The block was cut along the grain of the wood. It is only necessary to
ink the block and bring it into firm and even contact with the paper or cloth to achieve an
acceptable print. The content would of course print "in reverse" or mirror-image, a further
complication when text was involved. The art of carving the woodcut is technically known as
xylography, though the term is rarely used in English.
For colour printing, multiple blocks are used, each for one colour, although overprinting two
colours may produce further colours on the print. Multiple colours can be printed by keying the
paper to a frame around the woodblocks.
