I would like to help out: 1. I would like to have role in planning and organizing gardens and landscape projects at WHS 2. Regular classroom help (1hr /once a week help teachers with garden related project) 3. Seasonal workdays- attend weekend or afterschool parent work days 4. Fundraising, grant writing , inkind requests from donors, helping with Plant Sale, Bulb Sale or International Day Harvest Feast 5. I am interested in healthy food and cooking in classrooms 4. I would like to work with IRIS (integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services) in the collaborative peace garden and programming project. Spring 2013 Worthington Hooker School Gardens Parent Group Detailed Volunteer Opportunities-DRAFT Title Job Description School Garden Parent Coordinators K-2 Coordinator Primary liaison with school, Board of Ed, Community Partners and PTA 3-8 Coordinator Recruit parent involvement for 3-8 classes. Liaise with class teachers and admin and Common Ground to identify areas for parent involvement. Help Organize work days. Procurement and Budget SchoolYard Habitat Stewardship Committee Track grant awards donations and expenses. Coordinate with teachers, grant writers and PTA treasurer. Work with URI and Board of Ed, SCGR and AUDUBON CT as well as School on native tree and landscape installation on school grounds. Organize parent volunteers for helping prepare planting areas and maintenance Curriculum Support Collect information and maintain binder with resources for teachers to incorporate garden activities into class rooms. Coordinate with teachers in identifying opportunities and projects. Coordinate with grant writers Soils Testing + Prep Assist with soil testing for nutrients (with Common Ground and Conn Ag station). Organize compost delivery (free from Common Ground if we pick it up) Helpful to have pickup truck. Work with compost coordinator for sustainable soil health. Volunteers to help Common Ground crew and students build and install beds at both schools and install soil in built in planters Fall and early spring Organize parent volunteers to do weekly watering and maintenance over the summer and school vacations as necessary.
