Sowing ‘seeds of peace, justice and environmental responsibility’ Sr. Jessica & Helen Granger [Co-ordinator of ALVP] enjoying the inspiring evening Sr. Jessica writes: "Several Assumption sisters were able to be present at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Columban Newsletter ‘Vocation for Justice’ held on May 13th at Heythrop College. We have found the newsletter helpful and inspiring over the years. It was great to be able to celebrate with so many people who commit their time and energy to the work for a more just, peaceful and sustainable world. It was an excellent evening chaired by Bishop William Kenney representing the International Department of the Bishops’ Conference. The speakers were Rosemary Read (president of the National Council of Lay Associations), Bruce Kent, tireless worker for a more peaceful world and Mary Colwell (Environmental justice adviser to the Bishops’ Conference). There were many important points raised, the correlation between world military expenditure and world poverty, ethical investment, life style and structural change to meet the huge challenges of a sustainable world order, not to mention the importance of JPIC work in the church with adequate education and resourcing for it."
