PROCEDURE FOR ACNE-PRONE AND PROBLEM SKIN
Perform the standard pre-service procedure and eliminate any of the following steps that
have already been completed.
1.
Remove jewelry.
2.
Escort the client to the dressing room. Offer assistance.
3.
Place a towel. Place a clean towel across the back of the facial table or chair.
4.
Position the client. Help the client onto the facial bed. Place a towel across the chest
and a sheet over the body, folding the top of the towel over the sheet. Remove the
client’s shoes and tuck the sheet around the feet. Use disposable slippers if available.
5.
Protect the hair. Fasten a headband or towel around the head to protect the hair.
6.
Place the lingerie straps. Remove the lingerie straps from the shoulders or tuck
them into a topless gown.
7.
Remove the client’s makeup.
8.
Apply cleanser. Use cleaner designed for oily/acne-prone skin. Gently massage to
apply, and then remove with damp cotton pads, soft sponges, or a warm moist soft
towel.
9.
Remove residue. Use toner on a damp cotton pad or a soft sponge.
10. Steam the face. Focus steam on the face and allow steaming for five minutes.
11. Apply a desincrustation lotion or gel to any area with pimples or clogged
pores. Negative galvanic current may be applied over this lotion, depending on the
manufacturer’s instructions. The lotion should generally remain on the skin for five to

eight minutes, again, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. Remove the
preparation with damp cotton pads, soft sponges, or a warm moist soft towel.
12. Extract comedones. Follow the basic extraction procedure in your text.
13. Apply astringent. After extraction is complete, apply an astringent lotion, toner for
oily skin, or specialized serum designed for after extraction. Allow it to dry.
14. Apply high frequency. Unfold gauze across the face and apply direct high frequency
using the mushroom-shaped electrode, according to the machine manufacturer’s and
your instructor’s directions.
14. Apply positive galvanic current. If galvanic desincrustation was performed before
extraction, apply positive galvanic current to the face after extractions are complete.
This will help to reestablish the proper acid pH of the skin surface.
15. Do not massage the face.
16. Apply a mask. Using a mask brush, apply an antibacterial or sulfur-based mask to all
oily and acne prone areas. To dry areas, such as the eye and neck areas, you may
choose to apply a gel mask for dehydrated skin. Allow the mask to process for about
10 minutes. Do not allow the mask to overdry so that it cracks.
17. Remove the mask. Use warm, wet cotton pads; sponges; or warm moist soft towels.
18. Apply toner. Apply toner for oily skin with cotton pads.
19. Apply moisturizer or sunscreen. Use a product designed for oily or acne-prone skin.
20. Escort the client. When the service is completed, remove the head covering and
show the client to the dressing room. Offer assistance if needed.
Complete the standard post-service procedure.
