The Senior Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the administration and efficient functioning of the
departmental laboratories. In addition, the incumbent is involved in the preparation, supervision and
administration of practical classes. The Senior Laboratory Assistant manages the departmental supply chain
and assists in general departmental administration, departmental research activities, student excursions as
well as community outreach projects. The incumbent will report to the Head of Department: Zoology.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 BSc Honours in Zoology or Animal Ecology OR similar B-Tech.
 Two years laboratory management and administration experience in an academic or research institution
laboratory or related environment
 Good English speaking, reading and writing capability
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge
 Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
• General departmental administration and supply chain management
 Laboratory management and administration at university or research laboratory level.
 Administration and involvement with student practical classes at undergraduate level.
Skills
 Laboratory management and administration.
 Multi-tasking and be able to work under pressure
 Work in support of a diverse team.
 Effective communication/engagement with lecturing/research staff and students.
 Computer literate in MS Office
