Contrast to the passage, the professor states that foreign species don’t always bring dangers to
local areas. Sometimes these new comers live peacefully with local people and benefit local places
as well.
First, some local species can be better for native circumstance. New crop species, traveling from
America to Asia, contributes to Asian food production. Local farmers are glad with this welladapted crop and the new crop species fields prosperously for Asians. Opposed to the challenge
to extremely isolated circumstances in Australia, new species can offer brilliant opportunities as
well.
Second, new species are not so dangerous to the local ecological system. Take cane toad for
example, the species brought into South America from West Africa lives peacefully with the local
people and animals. What’s more, the cane toad even eat a lot of pests, such as flies, mosquitos.
This is contrary to the passage saying that people keep distance away from it to prevent from
poisoning accidents.
Third, newly introduce species can even blast the local economy. For instance, the mesquite tree,
a new comer to Africa, benefits local people a lot by providing fire woods. Mesquite trees grow fast
and are suit for fuel materials. So rather than bringing great reduction in agricultural output stated
in the passage, mesquite trees help decrease the economic burden in Africa.
