Strategies for Success in AP BIOLOGY
AP Bio is not an easy class- it may cause you some stress and it may
cause you to get less than the ideal amount of sleep. Having said that – AP BIO
will rival the amount that you have learned in any other class- not only in content
but also in study habits- you are going to impress yourself with what you will
accomplish!!!!
Here are some strategies for success in AP BIO:
1. The basic recipe for success in biology is to learn how to work EFFECTIVELY,
and then to work long, hard, and preemptively at mastering the material.
2. When learning the material, quantity time is a poor and inefficient substitute
for quality time.
3. Put in the effort necessary to learn the material – no excuses, just DO IT!
4. Stay on top of the reading!! (Easier said then done! However, reading the
chapter the night before a quiz will only limit your study time and therefore
your success on the quiz itself!)
5. Memorize!
6. Don’t’ forget that it is learning the material that is your goal, not simply
studying the material; learning takes TIME, ORGANIZATION, and EFFORT as
well as an understanding of background material.
7. Stay with me! Stay on top of the course and try to stay that way! Study
twice as hard as you can possibly imagine needing to study for a course! Be
prepared to pay full attention in every class.
8. Take care of yourself! Regardless of how well you know the material, you
need to be relaxed and be able to focus on days of quizzes and exams in
order to do well!!
9. DON’T GIVE YOURSELF A HARD TIME!!!! You will enjoy the class much more
if you are not constantly fighting against the daily grind!!!!!!
