Senior Projects – 2014-2015
Research Paper Requirements
3). Your cited research must include:
• At least two print sources
• Information from at least two interviews
• Information from at least one visit to a place related to your topic
4). Your paper must be clearly and thoughtfully written.
• The style of your paper should be formal yet engaging.
• You should assume that your audience is interested in your topic, but
not necessarily well-informed about it.
• Your paper should both inform your reader and sustain the reader’s
interest
Do’s and Don’ts
• DO use the information you’ve already gathered from your two interviews
and your visitation in your research paper.
• DO summarize and paraphrase information from the other sources (books,
Web sites, magazines) you’ve identified.
Do’s and Don’ts
• DON’T just cut and paste paragraphs
from your interviews or visitation
into your research paper.
• DON’T forget to cite information –
both in-text and in your Works Cited
list – no matter where it comes
from!
• DO ask yourself: why am I quoting
this information? How do I intend to
use it?
Just say no to cutting and pasting.
Integration
Choose ONE sub-topic of your
Research Paper.
For example, if your project is
on surfing, you could choose:
• Equipment
• Lessons
• The ideal location
Looks ideal to me.
Integration
REVIEW your materials. Find a quote or relevant passage
from each of the following sources:
• Your research (books, Web sites, magazines,
etc.)
• “Yoga is the life-force, the vital energy which
flows through and enlivens all our physical
systems” (Yoga).
Integration
REVIEW your materials. Find a quote or relevant passage
from each of the following sources:
• One of your two interviews
• “The hardest part of yoga is when my mind
starts complaining. In order to push past this, I
work on controlling my breath, shutting off my
mind, and being present” (Bille).
Integration
REVIEW your materials. Find a quote or relevant passage
from each of the following sources:
• Your visitation
• “Once a yoga practitioner can fully master his
or her breath, then the mastery of mind is
within reach” (Sanatan Society).
Integration
• Choose a color for each of the
four categories – include a
legend.
• Make sure to color-code your
information and to cite it
properly.
“Yoga is the life-force, the vital energy
which flows through and enlivens all our
physical systems” (Yoga).
“The hardest part of yoga is when my mind
starts complaining. In order to push past
this, I work on controlling my breath,
shutting off my mind, and being present”
(Bille).
“Once a yoga practitioner can fully master
his or her breath, then the mastery of
mind is within reach” (Sanatan Society).
Integration
Write a reflection on those
combined pieces of information:
• “Throughout my practice, I have
found that it is very difficult to
control my breath. It’s like having
to teach my body a whole new way
of breathing: in through the nose,
raising the chest and breathing
through the belly, then exhaling,
contracting the stomach and
forcing the breath out.”

Integration
Add your reflection to the information you have assembled so far:
• “Yoga is the life-force, the vital energy which flows through and enlivens all
our physical systems” (Yoga).
• “The hardest part of yoga is when my mind starts complaining. In order to
push past this, I work on controlling my breath, shutting off my mind, and

mastery of mind is within reach” (Sanatan Society).
Integration
• Now add transitions and explanations to allow the informational
elements you’ve assembled to flow together.
Integration
In yoga, breathing gives us strength. It is “the life-force, the vital energy
which flows through and enlivens all our physical systems” (Yoga).
Calmness in the mind helps create a stress-free environment,
important for yoga practices. In Cathy Bille’s opinion, the hardest part
of yoga is when her mind starts complaining. In order to push past this,
she “works on controlling [her] breath, shutting off [her] mind, and
being present” (Bille). Throughout my practice, I have found that it is
very difficult to control my breath. Sometimes I get so caught up in
getting the right pose that I forget to breathe. It’s like having to teach
my body a whole new way of breathing: in through the nose, raising
the chest and breathing through the belly, then exhaling, contracting
the stomach and forcing the breath out. Once I can fully master my
breath, “then the mastery of mind is within reach” (Sanatan Society).
Only then can I confidently call myself a yoga master.
Now it’s your turn!
• Write a paragraph (using butcher paper) discussing your subtopic and
integrating the information you’ve assembled.
• You have the tools – you just have to put them together!
