3 years renewable for a further 3 years
Role Purpose
To provide strategic leadership over the company’s financial affairs, ensuring the integrity
of financial information sent to the Board and key stakeholders, and external parties such
as investors or financial institutions and for Triathlon Scotland accounts.
Organisational Structure
The Finance Director is an Officer of the Board and a Non – Executive Director, appointed in
accordance with the Articles of Association and with indirect responsibility for the finances
of Triathlon Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Responsibilities:
Finance
•
Take the strategic lead on ensuring accounting and auditing systems are robust,
secure and fit for purpose
•
Work with the CEO to prepare budgets and present accurate and timely financial
information at each Board meeting and to key stakeholders
•
Ensure that finances are spent in line with agreed Strategic Plan priorities
•
Advise on company policies related to all financial matters
•
Work with the CEO and Triathlon Scotland’s appointed accountants in preparing the
annual accounts
•
Ensure that all regulatory requirements of statutory bodies are met regarding the
company’s financial affairs
•
Understand the views of the membership directly and through fellow directors and
staff

Regular Annual Commitments
•
6 evening meetings of the Board
•
Attendance at the AGM
•
Attendance at an annual board review day
•
Meetings with CEO as appropriate either face to face or via phone/skype
Expenses
The position of Finance, as with all other Non-Executive Directors is unpaid. All reasonable
out of pocket expenses incurred on Triathlon Scotland business will be reimbursed.
Main Role Requirements
Knowledge and Experience:
•
Experience of financial management and preparing financial reports
•
Experience of working on or with a Board or management committee
•
Experience or knowledge of sport governing bodies / non-profit organisations
Skills and expertise:
•
Willingness to participate in the governance of Triathlon Scotland and the Board
•
An understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities of a company Director
•
Working knowledge of financial systems for recording and reporting
•
Member of a recognised professional accounting body or holder of an equivalent
qualification

•

•
