The following problem appears in Problems for the Quickening of the
Mind, a collection of problems compiled by the Anglo-Saxon scholar
Alcuin of York (ca. 735–804 C.E.).
A wolf, a goat, and a cabbage must be moved across a river in
a boat holding only one besides the ferryman. How can he
carry them across so that the goat shall not eat the cabbage,
nor the wolf the goat?

2. Draw a diagram with your group’s solution.
3. Write out your solution in words.
