SI IMPERSONALE
The verb is in the 3rd person singular
There will be no direct object
There is an unspecified or generic subject that generally translates into
English as ‘one, they, you’.
In the passato prossimo the auxiliary verb is essere.
When used with a reflexive verbs ‘ci si’ replaces ‘si si’.
ESEMPI:
Si mangia bene in Italia.
Si studia molto all’università.
Ci si alza tardi i weekend.
Sbagliando, s’impara.
Si dice che….
Si sa che…
SI PASSIVANTE
Is used in place of the true passive.
There will be a direct object which now acts as the grammatical subject.
The verb will be in the third person singular or plural agreeing with the noun
that used to be a direct object and now acts as the grammatical subject.
In the passato prossimo the auxiliary verb is essere.
ESEMPI:
Si mangia molta pasta.
Si mangiano gli spaghetti.
Si è mangiata la pizza.
Si vendono libri.
Si spendono molti soldi in vacanza.
Non si studiano abbastanza le lingue straniere.
