IN POLAND EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IS
DIVIDED INTO A FEW STAGES:
Children ( aged 1-3) attend
nurseries:
At this stage it is learning by playing. Children spend most of
the time on singing, dancing, drawing and taking part in
various games
PRIMARY SCHOOL SIX YEAR-SCHOOL IS DIVIDED
INTO TWO 3-YEAR STEPS:
The first one is from class 1 to 3 where
there is only one teacher and the
education is integrated. The second one
is from class 4 to 6 where children have
one teacher for one subject. The main
subjects are : Polish, History, Science,
Mathematics, IT , Music, Art, PE and
Technical Science. In addition, from the
first grade it's compulsory to learn
foreign language and in some schools
even two of them. In the sixth class
pupils must write the exam of
knowledge and skills, but it does not
count to pass the primary school.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL -GYMNASIUM
Students in the school are the youth at age from 13 to
16. Education on this level has a general type, there are
more subjects, like: Science, Biology, Physics and
Astronomy. At the end of the third grade there is a final
exam, which verifies knowledge and skills gained at
this stage of education. Its results determine further
education because the number of points scored in this
exam decides on the type of school students can get into.
UPPER-SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Upper secondary schools divide into:
General Secondary School (pol. Liceum ) – 3 years,
Technical Secondary School (pol. Technikum ) - 4 years
Vocational Schools (pol. szkoły zawodowe)- 2 years.
Students choose the type of school they want to attend.
Technical schools educate in many different specialisations , eg . hotel
management, tourism, gastronomy, information technology,
environmental protection, economy and many others.
This period of education ends with maturity exam (pol. Matura). Technical
Schools students additionally have to take an exam confirming their
professional qualifications.
Finishing Vocational School does not entitle you to start studies. Only
‘Matura’ exam allows you to continue education on university level.
