The Giver – Choice Board Chapters 20 -23 Welcome to your second of many choice boards. I will use these boards to assess your reading comprehension of the chosen chapters. I will also learn about your strengths and interests based on your board selections. Please choose TWO of the following squares and complete their assigned tasks. Drawing Writing Task Perspective / Journal Sketch the view from the top of the mountain BEFORE Jonas and Gabe sled down. Pretend you are Jonas. I want you to write a final good-bye letter to another character in the book (Fiona, Asher, Mother, Father or The Giver). Write a journal entry from the perspective of Jonas’ Father when he discovers Jonas and Gabe have left. You may choose the view perspective (Jonas, Gabe, the Reader, Omniscient narrator) Remember: This is Elsewhere. What does that mean to you? Read the last paragraph very carefully. There is a special event happening. Be descriptive, personal and emotional. Be sure to use first person and include feelings, emotions and descriptive words. What do you want to tell them? What do they need to know? Music Historical List Comics The Giver speaks of his ability to hear beyond, to understand music. Jonas receives several painful memories about war and other disasters from the past. Your task is to explain the most important events of chapters 19-23 through a comic. You have been given the opportunity to share a favourite piece of music with Jonas who will hear it for the first time. Create a list of SIX different events in history that give people pain. You are required to create a comic containing at least SIX frames. For each event, outline why these events are so painful. Why do you think these events are taught to our society? Map out your comic frames first to be sure you have included the most important events. Explain (in detail) why you selected this piece for Jonas’ first introduction to music.
