YOUTH EXCHANGE
“ZERO WASTE - IT'S TIME FOR PRACTICE”
ROMANIA
SEPTEMBER 2014
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As European society has grown wealthier it has created more and more rubbish. Each year in the European Union
alone we throw away 3 billion tons of waste - some 90 million tons of it hazardous, according to Eurostat statistics. It
is clear that treating and disposing of all this material - without harming the environment - becomes a major
headache.
Improved waste management is an essential element in efforts to make Europe more resource efficient. One key
means of achieving that is by shifting waste management up the waste hierarchy. "Zero Waste - it's time for practice"
is a youth exchange that will focus on this issue, serving as a good platform to share knowledge and good practice
examples among young people across Europe.
"Zero Waste - it's time for practice" aims to empower the young people to apply the Zero Waste principles in their
everyday life, thus becoming active European citizens in shaping the European future. The youth exchange will take
place in an extraordinary place in Romania - the Danube Delta, which is famous for unique biodiversity and a great
mosaic of ethnic and religious groups. The young people will experience various outdoor activities in the heart of
nature, and will explore the intercultural diversity and tolerance within their group and the local community.
