Divisibility Tests- Lesson 1.5 Divisibility tests are used for a quick way to determine a number’s divisibility. When a number is divisible by something, it means it will divide evenly with no remainder leftover or no decimal in the answer. (example: 15 is divisible by 3, because 15 ÷ 3 = 5. 15 is not divisible by 2, because 15 ÷ 2 = 7.5) The divisibility tests we learned are as follows: 2: All even numbers are divisible by 2 (even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) 3: Add up the sum of the digits. If the sum is divisible by 3, then the whole number is divisible by 3. (example: 123: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6. 6 is divisible by 3, so 123 is also divisible by 3) 5: Any number that ends in 5 or 0 is divisible by 5 (ex: 150, 75, 220) 6: If a number is divisible by both 2 and 3, then it is also divisible by 6 9: Same rule as 3, but with 9. (example: 459: 4+ 5 + 9 =18. 18 is divisible by 9, so 459 is divisible by 9 10: Any number that ends in 0 is divisible by 10
