MGT 4451
Supply Chain Management
Prerequisites
MGT 3373.
Description
Supply Chain Management involves planning and coordinating the value-adding activities and
flow of materials and information among the organizational units or firms that participate in the
product fulfillment process—from procurement to manufacturing and distribution. Topics cover
the important levers for managing supply chains—inventories, facilities, transportation, and
coordination.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Describe and explain fundamentals of supply chain management
2. Derive and compute optimal policies/variables, performance measures such as
costs/profits
3. Describe the basic processes that impact supply chain performance.
4. Compute how much inventory to order and when to place the order by taking into
consideration of variables such as: quantity discounts, supplier lead times, routing, daily
usage rates and, ordering.
5. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of ERP systems such as: SAP, DRP and SRP.
Purpose
To provide a basic knowledge of efficient integration of suppliers, factories, warehouses and
stores so that products are distributed to customers in the right quantity and at the right time. To
understand how to minimize the total supply chain cost subject to various service requirements.
BABA/BSBA/BASRTM elective(?). QM 2241 should be taken first.

instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
The objectives included on this Master Syllabus must be included among the objectives on the instructor’s syllabus, which may expand upon the
same as the instructor sees fit. The statement of purpose seeks to position the course properly within the curriculum and should be consulted by
faculty as a source of advisement guidance. Specific choice of text and other details are further subject to Program Coordinator guidance.
