Dear Client, We value your business with us and want to let you know about an upcoming change to your SunWise Elite segregated fund contract. As a client who holds this contract, you enjoy principal protection guarantees of your investments through maturity benefits and death benefits. You may have also elected the SunWise Elite Plus Guaranteed Minimum Withdrawal Benefit (GMWB) rider, which can bring certainty to your retirement planning with a secure annual income. Based on a review of the product and taking into account market conditions, effective October 1, 2012, the fees that you pay for these guarantees will be increasing. These increases are being implemented consistent with the terms of your contract. What is influencing the fee increase? Since the market decline of 2008, markets have remained volatile and interest rates have declined to historically low levels, increasing the cost for insurance companies to provide these guarantees. The fees for SunWise Elite (including SunWise Elite Plus) segregated fund guarantees outlined in your contract are subject to the following increases effective October 1, 2012: • the insurance fees will increase by a range of 0.00 - 0.15 per cent, depending upon the fund, plus applicable taxes (HST/GST), charged through the management expense ratio (MER) of each fund • the fees for the optional SunWise Elite Plus Guaranteed Minimum Withdrawal Benefit (GMWB) rider, charged through a redemption of units, will increase by a range of 0.00-0.10 per cent, depending on the fund category. Please see the attached list of changes to all funds. The increase in the GWB fee applicable to the period of October 1 to December 31, 2012, will be charged to your account on October 1, 2012. You will receive a confirmation of this transaction for your records. The principal protection guarantees (maturity and death benefits) associated with your current investments, as well as the Guaranteed Minimum Withdrawal Benefits for SunWise Elite Plus contracts, which are provided by Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, remain in effect and continue to protect your investments.
