The initiative to eliminate foul and abusive language from sport is almost universal and is not limited to soccer/football but many codes. The Nepean District Referees Association advised this week that there will be no "easing up" of the policy and that they will be seeking further compliance from their own members. To try and gain some consistency in the application of the rule; would you please encourage any club member that is required to referee a match (junior or senior) to also not tolerate the use of foul and abusive language. The use of foul and abusive language is one of seven possible straight red card offences. There is no definition as to what constitutes foul and abusive. It does not have to be a torrent of four letter words, although clearly it is the traditional use of slang that has been targeted. Encourage your volunteer referees to line the players up at the beginning of the game and advise them not to swear and that if heard, they may be dismissed from the field of play. Before the start of a game is always the best time to establish how the official wants the game to be played in terms of spirit and how the rules will be interpreted and what behaviours will and will not be tolerated. Thank-you for your support. The Management Committee 2006 Nepean District Soccer Working together to clean up our sport
