Residency Programs in Primary Eye Care/Ocular Disease
Dayton VA Medical Center (Dayton, Ohio)
Supervisor: Rebecca Diller, OD
The Dayton VA Medical Center provides full scope optometric care within a multidisciplinary hospital setting. The resident provides direct
patient care and interacts regularly with three full-time ophthalmology residents and ophthalmology attendings from various specialties.
The resident educates fourth year optometry externs, from The Ohio State University and several other optometry schools across the
Midwest, through clinical supervision, journal club and lecture presentations. The program includes rotations through various medical

Cincinnati VA Medical Center (Cincinnati, OH)

The mission of the optometry residency program at the Cincinnati VAMC is to train individuals to be leaders in optometry by having
advanced clinical competence, current knowledge, the capacity to practice full-scope optometry within an integrated health care setting,

Chillicothe VA Medical Center/Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center

Residents will receive hospital based training at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center and outpatient based primary care training at the
Columbus VAACC. The Chillicothe VAMC is a neuropsychiatric/general medical facility located one hour’s drive south of Columbus.
The Columbus VAACC is near downtown in a modern facility that has been designed to meet the primary care needs of central Ohio

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)

This residency program is intended for the optometrist interested in developing their skills in the diagnosis and management of
children’s eye and vision related disorders. Housed within the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, this hospital based program offers the
opportunity for the practitioner to establish the necessary skills to become an effective member of a comprehensive pediatric eye care

Cincinnati Eye Institute (Cincinnati, Ohio)

The Erdey Searcy Eye Group (Columbus, Ohio)

The Cincinnati Eye Institute is the premier eye care referral center in southwest Ohio. Residents will receive training in the treatment and
management of ocular disease within nine different subspecialties of eye care which will highlight surgical co-management. (1 resident)

The Residency in Ocular Disease at the Erdey Searcy Eye Group is to provide a unique post-doctoral experience, both clinical and didactic,
in ocular disease diagnosis and treatment to an exceptional optometric graduate. Graduates of this residency are trained to deliver
superlative clinical care, to serve as educators in optometric institutions and within the community at large, and are able to pursue

Eye Center of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio)

The Eye Center of Toledo is a major eye care referral center located in northwest Ohio. Residents will be exposed to a wide range of
experiences including the treatment of anterior segment eye disorders, retinal diseases, and glaucoma and will participate in the comanagement of ocular surgeries. (1 resident) [email protected]
Louis B. Stokes VA Medical Center (Cleveland/BrecksviIle/Canton, Ohio)

The Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC is located in the University Circle area of Cleveland, a major medical, educational, and cultural hub.
This residency is set within a major, academically affiliated medical center, with rotations to Brecksville extended care/rehab facility and
Canton outpatient clinic. Clinical care is the primary focus of this residency, amply supplemented by grand rounds, journal clubs, case
conferences, lectures and rotations. Key features of the residency include: multiple residents, major eductional and research oriented
facility, close cooperation with the Case Western/University Hospitals ophthalmology residency program, and opportunity to manage

Ohio Eye Alliance (Alliance, Ohio)

The Ohio Eye Alliance is a surgical referral center located in northeast Ohio with three office locations. Ohio Eye Alliance surgeons specialize in anterior segment and refractive type surgeries. Residents will receive training in state of the art facilities and will receive a wide variety of diagnostic and treatment experiences. The resident will oversee student externs during the later stages of the training. (I resident)
