Tools of Geometry Project
Read each statement and complete the Step 1 column by entering an A or a D.
For those statements that you mark with an A, write on a piece of paper the reason you
agree using a definition from Chapter 1 or working the problem.
For those statements that you mark with a D, write on a piece of paper an example of
why you disagree.
STEP 1
A, or D
Statement
1. A line has no thickness or width.
2. Points on the same line are called collinear.
3. Point Y is between points X and Z if XY + YZ = XZ.
4. Two segments are congruent only if they have the same
length and are in the same direction.
5. The distance between points (3, 5) and (6, 9) is
(6 – 3) + (9 – 5) or 7.
6. If M is the midpoint of segment XY, then XM = MY.
7. A ray has only one endpoint.
8. An acute angle is any angle with a measure greater
than 90°.
9. Adjacent angles have a common vertex and a common side.
10. A triangle is an example of a polygon.
11. A prism is a three dimensional figure with all faces
except one intersecting at one vertex.
12. The bases of a prism could be triangles or rectangles.
