September 16, 2014 – Algebra I and II
Lesson Focus:
Unit Name:
Objectives:
Domain, Range, Independent and Dependent Variables
Demonstrating Patterns Using Multiple Representations
Students will be able to define domain, range, independent and
dependent variables. Students will be able to determine the domain,
range, independent, and dependent variables of real-life scenarios.
ALGI.1A: Describe independent and dependent quantities in
functional relationships.
ALGI.1B Gather and record data and use data sets to determine
functional relationships between quantities and write a general
equation describing the functional relationship.
TEKS Standards:
Key Vocabulary: What key terms will my students need to understand?
Domain
Range
Independent Variable
Dependent Variable
Assessment Plan:
Observation, student questioning, homework worksheet
Lesson Cycle:
Engage and Connect: How will I engage my students in learning? How will I
lead my students to mastery?
The teacher/students will…

Materials:
-
Complete the notes worksheet - relating the vocabulary to science
class, where students have seen independent and dependent
variables before.
- Solicit answers from students for filling in the second half of the
notes.
- Walk around and monitor students and checking for student
understanding.
Guided Practice:
The teacher/students will…(We do)
Review with students the real-world situations, assessing students
by asking them how many were able to solve the problems.
Independent Practice:
The students will…(You do)

_20_min
Materials:
Students will go around the room filling in as many of the practice
problems as they can solve. Students will be required to fill out at
least two of the domain and range and of the independent and
dependent variables.
Differentiation: How will I scaffold and/or accelerate learning? For Whom? How will I
group my students?
Students will be allowed to work in pairs while completing the practice activity., so
students who might be struggling can receive help from their peers.
Accommodations/Modifications:
Copy of teacher notes, large print, working in pairs, peer tutoring
Homework:
Independent Practice if not finished in class.
