Expression of interest, positions as PhD-students in Micro-data analysis. Dalarna University offers a modern educational environment. Twin campuses in Borlänge and Falun are situated in delightful natural surroundings in the heart of Sweden, only two hours from Stockholm Arlanda international airport. Read more about the area on www.dalarna.se and about the university on www.du.se . Dalarna University is now searching for PhD-students for the PhD-program in Micro-data analysis! Micro-data analysis is a subject that can be illustrated as a data collection and analysis chain and the implementation thereof. The first part of the micro-data analysis chain, data collection, requires knowledge and skill in various measurement techniques, as well as design of experiments. The second and third parts are data processing and storage that requires skills in advanced database techniques such as multi-dimensional database searching. The fourth part of the chain relates to data analysis, most often in the form of mathematical modeling of data that require skills in statistical modeling, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, simulation techniques, visualization and data mining. The fifth part is decision making and action based on results obtained in the previous four parts of the chain. This requires an understanding of techniques such as benchmarking and counterfactual analysis, but also on economic decision making and the dissemination of information within organizations. Micro-data analysis is made up of staff doing research with a focus on micro-data analysis and business intelligence, but who in most cases have had their academic training in traditional subjects such as computer science, informatics, human geography, economics and statistics. Research in micro-data analysis turnover is already around 35 million SEK per year, and the research area contains some 50 researchers and teachers, plus 30 or so graduate students. We are looking for persons with an interest in micro-data analysis and who have a suitable academic background, either in micro-data analysis or business intelligence, or in any of the traditional subjects mentioned above. A good background in mathematical modeling of data and quantitative research methods is a plus, making persons with backgrounds in mathematics or other quantitative subjects also of interest for these positions. Please send an expression of interest by e-mail to Bengt Persson, [email protected] and you will get information at the next announcement of positions in the PhD programme in MicroData Analysis
