For this week's big test, you need to know each definition, definiendum and definiens, genus and
difference. Definitions should be complete!
Make sure you concentrate special attention on memorizing and understanding the definitions
of:
1. A straight line is a line that is equally situated by the points
upon itself.
2. A planar surface (i.e. plane) is a surface that is equally
situated by the straight lines upon itself.
3. A pair of adjacent angles is a pair of coplanar angles with
the same vertex on opposite sides of a common side.
4. A pair of supplementing angles is a pair of adjacent angles
whose non-common sides are in a straight line with one
another.
5. A right angle is a rectilinear angle that is equal to its
supplementing angle.
6. A circle is a planar figure contained by one line such that
any of the straight lines falling upon it from one point
among those lying within the figure equal one another.
7. A polygon is a planar figure contained by straight lines.
8. An interior angle is an angle contained by two adjacent
sides of a convex polygon.
9. An exterior angle is a supplementing angle of an interior
angle of a polygon.
10. An equilateral triangle is a triangle which has its three
sides equal.
11. An isosceles triangle is a triangle which has two of its sides
alone equal.
12. A right-angled triangle (i.e. right triangle) is a triangle
which has a right angle.
13. An acute-angled triangle (i.e. acute triangle) is a triangle
which has three acute angles.
14. A rectangle is a quadrilateral which has only right angles.
15. A square is an equilateral rectangle.
16. A pair of parallel lines is a pair of coplanar straight lines
which, being produced indefinitely on both sides, do not
meet one another on either side.
17. A pair of convergent lines is a pair of coplanar straight
lines which, being produced indefinitely on both sides, meet
one another.
18. A parallelogram is a quadrilateral whose opposite sides
are parallel.
19. A transversal is a straight line crossing two coplanar
straight lines which it meets at different points.
20. An internal angle is a transection angle positioned between
the transects.
21. An external angle is a transection angle positioned outside
the transects.
22. A pair of opposite angles is a pair of internal angles on the
same side of the transversal.
23. A pair of alternate angles is a pair of non-adjacent,
internal angles on different sides of the transversal.
24. A pair of corresponding angles is a pair of non-adjacent
pair of transection angles where one is internal, and the
other is external, but both are on the same side of the
transversal.
25. A pair of adverging transects is a pair of transects inclined
to the transversal forming opposite angles whose sum is
less than two right angles.
Also, be able to represent an example of any of these in a diagram (i.e. drawing).
