A BILL INTITULED
AN ACT to restrict the Sale, Possession, and Advertisement Title.
of Contraceptives.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New
5 Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows :-
1. This Act may be cited as the Contraceptives Act, Short Title.

2. For the purposes of this Act the word " contra- Interpretation.
10 ceptive " shall mean any chemical or mechanical means
for the deliberate restriction of conception.
3.(1) Subject to the nert succeeding section, eVery Restricting sale

(c) Being a person under the age of eighteen years has
contraceptives in his or her possession.
(2) Every person committing any offence as aforesaid
shall be liable on summary conviction-
(a) To a fine of twenty pounds in the case of a first 5
offence :
(b) To a fine of one hundhed pounds or imprisonment
for a term of three months in the case of a
second or any subsequent offence.
Exemptions.
4. Nothing in this Act shall apply to prohibit the 10
sale of contraceptives to a registered medical practitioner
or to the supply of contraceptives by a registered medical
sale, &c., of
practitioner for the use of any patient under his care.
5. (1) Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing
provisions of this Act, it shall not be lawful for any 15
contraceptives.

(a) To sell or offer for sale in any street or public
place, or by means of an automatic machine
so placed that it can be used by persons in
any street or public place, any contraceptive : 20
(b) To go to the premises of any person other than
a registered chemist or a registered medical
practitioner and there sell or offer for sale any
contraceptive :
(c) To display in, on, or outside any shop, so as to 25
be visible to persons outside the shop, any
picture, diagram, or written matter illustrating
or describing the use or effect of any contraceptive, or any illuminated sign advertising
contraceptives.

(2) Every person who commits an offence against this
section shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine
of twenty-jive pounds.
