The West

The Rocky Mountains, unspoiled nature popular for hiking and camping, Spanish missionaries first,
Native American reservations, wild west, cowboys, Silicon Valley (high-tech industry), California (film
industry, Hollywood, the Golden Gate Bridge), Death Valley (86m below sea level), mostly semi-arid
plateaus and plains (tornadoes, buffalo) Utah (Monument valley, Navajo).

Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming can be considered part of the Northwest.
The Midwest
 sometimes known as "the heartland"
 Fertile land for farming, huge fields of corn, wheat, other grains as well as heavy
industry. The most famous cities are Chicago (Spanish minorities, Czech
community), transportation crossroads, Great Plains, Black Hills
 The region consists of 12 states in the north-central and north-eastern United
States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska,
North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota (Mt. Rushmore), and Wisconsin. Illinois is the
most populous of the states.
The Northeast
New England ,Pilgrims from England, ship the Mayflower ,
Puritans, Dutch, Swedish, English, French, the richest region,
wealthiest states are New Jersey, New York, Connecticut
 rocky coast to fertile farmland, islands, Hudson river, Delaware,
Connecticut river, great lakes, Niagara falls, cities: NY city,
Boston, Philadelphia, major ethnicities: African American, Irish,
Italian, Puerto Rican,
 the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont; and the MidAtlantic states of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania were
among the original Thirteen Colonies , American revolution

The Southeast
British colonists, Scots, African slaves
 service economy, manufacturing, financial sector, car industry (BMW, Mercedes, Nissan,
Hyundai), tourism, hurricanes, agriculture
 the southeastern United States as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi,


The Southwest


Mount McKinley (also widely known by its local name of
Denali), the highest point in North America.

Hawaii





Hawaii’s diverse natural scenery,
warm tropical climate,
plenty of public beaches and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists,
surfers, and volcanologists alike
Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences
along with its own vibrant native culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents.
Its capital is Honolulu.
