Graph exponential functions. Identify data that displays exponential behavior. Graph Exponential Functions An Exponential Function is an equation/function where the variable is the exponent. A simple exponential function can be written in the form, *where 0 and 1. Example: 2 can represent bacterial growth Bacteria Total # of Bacterial Cells

a.) x y b.) x y Let’s Compare and Contrast the Graphs of Exponential Functions Exponential Growth Exponential Decay Identify Exponential Behavior A set of data that displays exponential behavior has rapid change and slow change. The change is not consistent. There are two methods to determine whether a set of data displays exponential behavior. One method is to look for a pattern in a table of values. The other method is to graph the set of data and see if the graph is exponential. Example 3: Identify Exponential Behavior Determine whether the set of data displays exponential behavior. a.) x 0 2 4 6 8 10 y 64 32 16 8 4 Method 1: Look for a Pattern
