Myths and Truths about Acid Reflux
Separating myth from truth is so important on the path to acid reflux relief. You’ll rid
yourself of symptoms once you understand your digestive tract and its connection to your
overall health. Before you do that, you need to what’s really causing the symptoms.
Before we dive in to the myths and facts about acid reflux, I’d like to ask you a set of yes
or no questions. If your answer is “Yes” to all of the following, it’s crucial that you get
the FACTS about acid reflux.
1. Do you have recurring heartburn issues?
2. Does your heartburn/acid reflux keep you from being able to eat the foods
you enjoy?
3. Are you using over the counter or prescription acid reflux medications?
4. Have you been told that your Acid Reflux could never be cured?
5. Have you been told that Proton Pump Inhibitors are forever?
6. Is your heartburn/acid reflux getting worse even with medication?
7. Have you tried to get off of your Rx medications and failed?
8. Have you tried other natural reflux remedies without relief or without
permanent relief?
If you said yes to many of these questions, you’re about to start the healing process with
the following revelations.
Myth #1: Acid Reflux is caused by
having too much stomach acid
It seems logical, right? That having too
much acid is the biggest, evil culprit of
acid reflux and all of its nasty
symptoms. Major pharmaceutical
companies absolutely perpetuate this
myth. On one of the well-known acid
reflux medication websites, Dr. Frank
McGeorge says in a video, "More acid,
more heartburn." And, on a site for
another acid reflux medication, it states
in the very first line on the site that it is used to treat conditions where there is too much
acid in the stomach.
Truth #1:Acid Reflux is most often caused by having too little stomach acid
In order for the esophageal sphincter to close, there must be enough acid in the stomach
to digest food properly. When there isn't enough acid to digest food properly, bloating
and inflammation often occur in the stomach and esophagus. These symptoms can keep
the esophageal sphincter from closing as it should, and a stomach acid/food mixture
splashes up into the esophagus and causes a burning sensation in the chest and/or throat
and other symptoms. New York Times best-selling author of 6 books on digestive health,
Brenda Watson, explains that experts believe that the majority of digestive problems
linked to heartburn actually stem from too little hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Myth #2: Acid Reflux cannot be cured.
Medical sources often perpetuate this myth by
referring to the esophagus of someone with reflux
as faulty. Medical News Today writes, "Acid
reflux is a condition in which stomach acids rise
up into the esophagus because the valve that
separates the stomach contents from the
esophagus is faulty." Doctors have said that once
the esophageal sphincter isn't closing properly,
which causes reflux, there is no way to fix it. The
patient is simply stuck with Acid Reflux and the
standard treatments for it for the rest of his life.
Truth #2: You can control and cure your acid
reflux!
Many people have taken control of their Acid Reflux. One simple way to control acid
reflux is to ensure there is enough acid in the stomach to digest food properly and keep
the esophageal sphincter closed. Using digestive bitters is one natural way to increase the
acid production of the proton pumps in the stomach so that the sphincter closes and acid
doesn't splash up into the esophagus.
There are many natural ways to control and cure acid reflux. We have researched 100's
of natural cures and tested many. The Cure Your Acid Reflux team wants to tailor a
solution for you based on your symptoms and current habits. This will take the guess
work out and save you time and money.
Myth #3: You need drugs to treat your acid reflux.
This myth exists because the medical mind-set is often that the only "fix or cure" is a
pill...some drug or medication. In addition, the pharmaceutical industry capitalizes on
that medical mind-set and runs celebrity ads that make taking the drugs look like the best,
if not only, solution! For example, Larry the Cable Guy represents Prilosec OTC. He has
implied in an ad on their website that using Prilosec leads to life and liberty.
Truth #3: You don't need drugs to treat your acid reflux.
Drugs may help to relieve your symptoms, but they are
not helping to resolve acid reflux. The reality with
drugs is that they are also doing more harm.
Commonly prescribed and over the counter
medications for acid reflux include proton pump
inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid,
Protonix, and others. These medications all come with
a strong warning against their use for more than 14
days within one year. Many people end up on them for
years or even decades. We know that long-term use of
PPIs can actually increase the risk of Barrett's
esophagitis and esophageal cancer. As well they
inhibit essential nutrient absorption, cause bone loss,
and increase your risk of certain infections.
Acid reflux can be cured through a process of lifestyle
or dietary changes and supplementation that will
actually correct the problem! We will teach you how and help to make the process
efficient and effective for you. Our goal is to empower you to better health!
Myth #4: Your doctor is in charge of your health
The current medical system is not an
empowerment system. The whole system
gives you evidence that tells you that you
need a pill to cure what ails you...that you
don't know what's going on and you don't
have the tools. It sets us up to think our
doctor is the only one that can help or heal us.
Truth #4: You are in charge of your health!
You are in control of your health, and you’ve
made a great choice! We look forward to
empowering you to controlling and curing
your Acid Reflux! There is so much that you
can do that will improve your Acid Reflux
symptoms and overall digestive health. We will continue to provide education and
support as you move through this journey.
