MANCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUPPLEMENTAL JOB DESCRIPTION INCUMBENT: ___________________________ FLSA: Exempt EEO-6: 3-34 (Professional) SOC CODE: 11-2031 CLASSIFICATION: Programs Information Officer CLASSIFICATION CODE: 711800 IN-HOUSE TITLE: Director of Marketing DATE ESTABLISHED: 07/26/2013 POSITION #: M1R00093 DATE OF LAST AMENDMENT: 07/26/2013 SCOPE OF WORK: Serves as the chief marketing and public information officer responsible for developing, directing, and managing the public relations, promotional, and marketing strategies and programs for Manchester Community College. This position shall report to the President of Manchester Community College. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Serves as the primary media spokesperson for MCC; Advises the president and others in media interactions and advertising strategies and works with the president in generating a positive public image and engendering public and legislative support. Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive marketing, imaging, and public relations campaign to promote Manchester Community College and create financial and public support. Manages budgets for marketing, publications, advertising, and public relations activities; writes proposals for vendor bids, authorizes payment for vendor services. Prepares periodic reports concerning marketing strategies effectiveness and return on investment. Prepares and dispatches external releases and internal communications and coordinates all public information programs and serves as the governmental liaison with state officials and coordinates research to answer legislative inquiries. Develops, designs, and supervises production and distribution of college marketing and promotional pieces including, but not limited to: press releases, advertising copy, newsletters, brochures, topic specific legislative information pieces, informational reports and works with appropriate segments of the college community to plan and implement the college’s marketing effort and budget. Works collaboratively with the president’s leadership team in the establishment and maintenance of a college-wide communications program to ensure that the college community is better informed. Supports alumni communications. Supervises the Webmaster and the Graphic Designer in the Marketing Department. Researches and analyzes marketing and operational data pertaining to colleges and universities, higher educational trends, community and state demographics, economic development, workforce training, labor market statistics, and other pertinent information, as directed. Works with appropriate segments of the college community to plan and implement efforts and the budget and serves as a resource for college marketing strategies and activities. Serves as a resource for college information, admissions, alumni, and business and industry, as needed. Participates in enrollment and retention activities at the college and prepares reports concerning college marketing, legislative matters, and enrollment. Serves on college and other committees, as assigned. Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences for both professional development and to represent the College at State, National, and International venues. Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations; Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in journalism, arts, advertising, public relations, marketing, business administration, or a communications related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in the field of journalism, advertising, public relations, marketing, business administration or other communications related field, two years of which shall have been associated with magazine or newspaper writing/editing, graphics, preparation of audiovisual or web-related material or other communications and public relations experience. License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to statewide transportation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, and social media; Possess considerable knowledge of English and composition; creative concept work, the printing industry, and web production preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: For appointment consideration, applicants must successfully participate in a structured interview measuring possession of knowledge, skills and abilities identified as necessary for satisfactory job performance by this class specification. The structured interview is developed and administered, according to CCSNH guidelines, by representatives of the college in which the vacancy exists. RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of communications principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of the techniques of planning, composing, and editing writing diverse informational material. Considerable knowledge of English and composition; creative concept work, the printing industry, and world-wide web production. Knowledge of public relations and marketing techniques and procedures. Knowledge of various media needs and methods. Ability to appear before groups, speak effectively and answer questions from the audience. Ability to supervise a small staff of assistants in public relations work. Ability to seek out pertinent and newsworthy information. Ability to read proofs using standard proofreaders' marks. Ability to write audio and visual copy for both motion and still films and video tape for dissemination and utilization by the public. Ability to use a camera. Ability to design, write and layout newsletters and brochures. Ability to use a graphics page design software programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CCSNH and college departments and employees and outside groups and individuals. Ability to supervise others. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college.
