COMMERCIAL SOLUTIONs
Q: How is LCOE lower with
SolarEdge?
SolarEdge offers a distributed electronics solution at a comparable price with string inverters (especially if you consider the 20yr
replacement cost / warranty extension). You get higher energy output, increased design flexibility, module-level monitoring and
improved safety for an unprecedented value.

Q: How do you increase energy?
By placing an MPP(1) tracker on every module, SolarEdge maximizes energy harvest by eliminating module mismatch losses.
Traditional string inverters lose around 5% of their energy due to module mismatch. In some shaded conditions, the losses could be
as high as 25%.

Q: What warranties are provided
and what is included?
SolarEdge power optimizers come with 25 year coverage; SolarEdge inverters come with a standard 12yr warranty with a low cost
20yr/25yr extension. Traditional string inverters offer only 5-10yr warranties and extensions are 2-3X more expensive.

Q: Is SolarEdge widely used?
Yes, over 2.7 million SolarEdge power optimizers and 30 thousand SolarEdge 3-phase inverters have been installed worldwide.

Q: What about
communications?
SolarEdge uses DC line communications – hardwired communications are more reliable, faster and do not require additional
hardware. Microinverters use problematic AC line communications and are exposed to noise, filtering requirements and
cross talk. Other DC electronics providers use wireless communications for every module which is slower and can introduce
interference.

Q: Do installers need to match
An MPPT on every module eliminates the need to match module orientations, shading, technology or module type in an array
and helps ‘future-proof’ the system by allowing module replacement with the latest models available.

3
Q: How many modules can you
use in a string?
SolarEdge power optimizers come with DC-to-DC electronics which enables control over electrical output. By controlling
voltage, SolarEdge enables 2-3X longer strings which lowers BOS costs.

3
Q: Do you have a 480 Vac
Our 3-phase 10kW and 20kW inverters offer native 480 Vac compatibility eliminating the need for additional transformers
which add to the cost and induce further energy losses.

3
Q: What about combiner boxes
& fuses?
Because of the longer strings, you can fully load a SolarEdge inverter with only 2 strings – no need for fusing or DC combiner boxes.

3
Q: What about safety?
SolarEdge power optimizers and DC cables automatically drop to safe DC voltage when the inverter is off or disconnected. Traditional
string inverters have no module voltage regulation meaning that the circuit is still at 600-1000 Vdc in the event of an emergency.

3
Q: Safety during install and
maintenance?
With SolarEdge, there is no high voltage dc during installation, maintenance or firefighting. With traditional string inverters, installation
and service teams are exposed to 600-1000 Vdc

Q: What about arc fault circuit
interruption?
SolarEdge is working to certify its inverters to UL1699B by Jan 2014. Most traditional string inverters require additional hardware for
arc fault interruption and many do not comply with UL1699B.
