Word Formation - Prefixes and Opposites Outline

Content
With some words, it is possible to just add a prefix or suffix to create the opposite.
Un, dis, im, over, in, ir are all prefixes that create the opposite of the adjective.
There unfortunately is no rule that goes with these prefixes, you just have to
memorize!
Learning Outcomes
• Learn how to form new words by adding prefixes or suffixes
• Expand your vocabulary related to environment
• Use new grammar to form new words

Word formation is an important part of English
grammar. By adding prefixes or suffixes you
can form new words that can be either
opposites or become a new part of speech
(Noun->verb->adjective).

There are a lot of environmental problems that have to be considered. For
example, reusing recycled materials can help save energy, reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and prevent air and water pollution. Air pollution
is extremely harmful and poses a great health risk. Environmentalists
always try to accentuate how irresponsible people can be. Things like
leaving trash on the street, causing fires due to carelessness and dumping
sewage or industrial waste into rivers aren‘t unusual. It‘s true that most
peope underestimate the consequences of climate change and global
warming, however, it‘s still possible to rethink our own attitude towards
environmental issues and cooperate with each other. We don‘t want future
generations to live in an unhealthy environment,do we?
