5th Grade Cell Project
Due Thursday, January 14th
Directions:
1. Make a 3 dimensional model of a plant or an animal cell.
(In addition to our class notes and activities, Fusion v.1 pp.106-107 is a good
resource for information.)
If you make an animal cell, your cell should be approximately spherical and
include (other organelles are optional):
 Cell membrane
 Nucleus with chromosomes or DNA
 Cytoplasm
 Golgi bodies
 Mitochondria
 Vacuoles
If you make a plant cell, your cell should be approximately rectangular and
include (other organelles are optional):
 A cell membrane
 Nucleus with chromosomes or DNA
 Cytoplasm
 Chloroplasts
 Vacuole
 A cell wall
2. Clearly label your model PLANT CELL or ANIMAL CELL.
3. Clearly identify each cell part.
 Use a label for each part.
Or
 Use a key to identify each part.
4. Write a paragraph describing your cell.
Please have your paragraph separate from your project, so you can hand it in.
It should explain the type of cell and the function of each cell part, not
necessarily what items you used. Your paragraph MUST include the following:
 A topic sentence identifying the type of cell.
 Detail sentences that explain the function or purpose of each cell part.
 A closing sentence summarizing your cell project.
5. Clearly display your name and number on your project.
