Chris Pratt
Nicki Minaj
W
hile most people
wouldn’t cherish
their memories of
life on the street or
being homeless,
for
actor
Chris Pratt,
he considers
his
time
living in his
Scooby-Doo
painted van
a “charming
time.”
“It’s a pretty
awesome place
to be homeless,”
Pratt told The
Independent of
his homeless days
in the Rainbow
state. “It would be
different if I lived
on the streets of
Chicago and ate
garbage from a
dumpster.”

Leonardo Dicaprio
T
hough he was a mess in The Wolf of Wall
Street, Leonardo Dicaprio says that he never
did drugs while growing up as a “poor kid” in
Los Angeles.
He said that acting was a form of salvation and
escape from his world view of drugs, prostitution
and addiction right outside his door. An alleyway
near his home had a reputation for being a haven
for crack cocaine and heroin abuse.
He also said that while Hollywood does have
its temptations, it is a walk in the park for him
compared to his former neighbourhood of his
youth.
on’t even think for a
moment that Nicki Minaj
grew up in a privileged home
as nothing could be further
from the truth. She grew up in
Saint James, Trinidad with her
alcoholic and drug-addicted
father and mother. Her dad
was an angry man who once
tried to kill her mother by
setting their house on fire.
When she was older, she gave
acting a try with miserable
results. It was during this time
that she worked as a waitress
but fired for not being kind to
the clientele. She has said that
she had about 15 similar jobs
with the same endings.
Mariah Carey
A
s a child of divorce, Mariah Carey has said that when she
was young, she would sneak the radio in under the covers
with her at night and try to soothe herself with the music.
Throughout high school, Carey would excel in music classes
and soon had hopes of making music her career. For a time, she
lived in a one-bedroom apartment with four other females.
By day, she would work as a waitress to pay the bills while at
night she would continue working on completing a demo tape
to prove to someone that she had talent.
Halle Berry
G
rowing up in Ohio, actress Halle Berry found good luck in
competing in various beauty pageants and winning the titles
of Miss Teen All-American in 1985 and Miss Ohio USA in 1986.
But by the time she turned 21, Berry tried out for a career in
modelling in Chicago and later in New York. Surprisingly, that
didn’t go well for her, and she found her herself in need of
some money to pay the bills.
She contacted her mother who refused to give Berry any
financial aid. The young actress has to live in a homeless
shelter for a short time until she was able to land a role with
real paycheck.
Justin Bieber
J
ustin Bieber was born on March 1, 1994, in London,
Ontario as the son of Jeremy Bieber and Patricia Mallette,
who were never married. Bieber’s mother worked for some
low-paying office jobs while caring for her son in low-income
housing.
Together, they received support from her mother and
stepfather and continued to have contact with his father.
Bieber was starting posting videos of him playing the piano
and in 2007, he was “discovered” by Scooter Braun when he
watched Bieber’s videos.
