Managing Editors: A nation’s real and sustainable growth is possible with technological advancement and development of
its human resource. . The role of engineers be it in the areas like medical electronics, construction,
Asst Prof. Archana mechanical, electrical or software assumes so much more importance. Modern technology has made the
Murthy world a level playing field. With globalization, engineers should be able to perform in a larger
Asst Prof. Asha environment and are expected to face challenges & find solutions in any given situation. Thus they have
Rani N a greater scope to exhibit their skills.
The Medical Electronics Engineering is an exciting and dynamic field. It is a specialized discipline that
Student Editors:
advances knowledge in Engineering and Medicine, through cross-disciplinary activities that integrates
Vishal V the Engineering sciences with the Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Practice.
Rekha A S Students in this department are trained to excel in their career to become perfect engineers in their
profession.
Visualisers:
Department is fully geared up to cope up with the ever happening changes.
Naveen Kumar s We endeavor to mould our students in such a way that would enable them to be self-reliant, selfAbhimanya raja disciplined and self-evaluative with ample scope for experimentation and innovation - an effort to
develop competency among students in scholastic and non-scholastic areas of education.

Editor’s Note.......
The Shut-Eyes Have It
The only true
wisdom is knowing
that you know
nothing.” Socrates
For a quick and easy boost to your brainpower this weekend, pull down the shades, close your
eyes, and catch some daytime ZZZs.
People who take daytime naps outperform non-nappers on memory exercises. And,
surprisingly, a mere 6 minutes of shut-eye is enough to refresh the mind.
How does a quick catnap power up your thinker? Seems the mere act of falling asleep triggers a
brain-boosting neurobiological process that remains effective regardless of how long you
snooze.
Becoming older and wiser may be especially easy for people who nap regularly.
A recent study of men between the ages of 55 and 85 revealed that taking an afternoon nap
enhanced cognitive function not only immediately after the nap, but throughout the next day as
well. Naps can be especially healthful for people who aren't getting a proper amount of sleep at
night.
Poor sleep habits are sometimes to blame. To get the most out of your snooze time, keep a
regular sleep schedule; avoid stimulants, such as caffeine, close to bedtime; perform strenuous
activities, such as exercise, during early day hours; and designate a cool, dark, quiet room as
your regular sleep area. Often, an underlying medical condition is at the root of sleep problems,
so it's important to see your healthcare provider if you suffer from chronic daytime sleepiness.

WORKSHOP: “HANDS ON TRAINING IN THE APPLICATIONS OF MATLAB”
BY Hiren Parmar,Director,VEDLABS,Bangalore
The objective of this unique worshop was to
impart
to
the
students
the
latest
applications of MATLAB.It was indeed a
wonderful experiencce for all the students
of our Department.
QUIZ : “RECENT TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATIONS”
The Department of Medical Electronics conducted a quiz based on the recent advances in technology.
Students participated actively in this event which turned out to be a grand success
PAPER PRESENTATION:
This event encouraged students to present papers in the field of “Artificial Intelligence” and
“Advances in the field of Prosthetics”.A large number of students paricipated enthusiastically
which included avariety of applications in the current trends.

HEARTSCAPE 3D ECG SYSTEM
The Heartscape 3D ECG System, successor to the
PRIME® ECG technology, uses the same clinically
supported diagnostic algorithm to help physicians
identify indications of possible Myocardial Infarction
(MI) – including MIs without ST-segment elevation on
traditional 12-lead ECGs, and in patients with Left
Bundle Branch Block (LBBB). Studies demonstrate
greater sensitivity and comparable specificity in
detecting acute MIs compared to 12-lead ECGs. All
told, numerous studies – collectively involving
thousands of patients – have shown that the
Heartscape system's 80-lead technology can improve
early diagnosis and help detect acute MIs missed by
traditional 12-lead ECGs.
The device's unique design features a rapid-application
2-part Vest containing 80 leads, and an intuitive
touchscreen color monitor that displays the Heartscape
360 degree Exam. The Heartscape system facilitates
rapid data input and exam results to help accelerate
triage for cardiac patients, making it ideal for
emergency settings.
"By offering a 360 degree view of the electrical activity
of the heart, Heartscape is designed to help healthcare
providers assess the patients' status faster and
accelerate their treatment. We believe that with more
accurate diagnosis, better outcomes and lower costs are
the result."
According to the statistical office of the European Union, the average total number of deaths caused
by ischemic cardiopathy in 27 selected European countries was over 693,000 from 2007 - 2009. In
France alone, where this year's European Society of Cardiology is convening, it is estimated that
every year approximately 100,000 patients are affected by myocardial infarction.
Heartscape applications include standard ECGs and non-diagnostic 12-lead ECGs, such as Anterior
MIs, Posterior MIs, Inferior MIs, and more Lateral MIs (outside of the standard 12-lead view).
