Allegro Packets Network Multimeter Allegro Network Multimeter Installation Guide This document describes the hardware installation and software configuration of the Allegro Network Multimeter. Overview The guide contains the following sections: 1. Package Content 2. Hardware deployment 3. Device start 4. Management interface configuration 5. Factory Reset 1. Package Content The Allegro Network Multimeter package contains the following items: 1 x Allegro Network Multimeter 1 x Power Supply 1 x 1 Gbit/s USB-Ethernet device 1 x WiFi USB device (already pre-installed) 1 x Installation Guide Allegro Packets Network Software 2. Hardware deployment 2.1 N etwork Measurement installation (data plane) The Allegro Network Multimeter analyzes all traffic flowing through the both network interfaces. It can be deployed in the following setups: 1. Bridge mode: both interfaces build a layer-2 bridge. 2. S ink mode: Receive-only mode. Connect to a tap or mirror port. Default behavior is the bridge mode, thus running as an inline device. The other mode can be enabled within the web interface after setup. Connect Power Supply 2. Connect management LAN connection 3. Alternative: Use WiFi dongle Connect Power Supply Connect management LAN connection During initial install, your network connected Alternative: Use WiFi dongle: on the USB ethernet device assigns an IP address to the Network Multimeter via DHCP. Later in the web configuration section, it is possible to configure a fixed IP or enable a DHCP server running on that network interface. Also, the wireless device can be enabled to access the web interface as a WiFi client or access point. 3. Device start 1. Press the power button at the front of the device 2.LAN access: The device got its IP from the DHCP server in your network. Ask the server administrator for the IP of the device, then enter the IP into the URL bar of your web browser. 3.WiFi access: network name: „allegro-mm-xxxx“. (The last characters depend on the individual password „Allegro-MM“). After being connected go to http://allegro/ or http://192.168.4.1. NOTE: During device boot, the WiFi access point will be visible early, but the connect may fail during the first minute. Please retry after 1-2 minutes. 4.Web authentication: username: „admin“ password: „allegro“ Allegro Packets Network Software 4. Management interface configuration You can configure the management interfaces by accessing the web interface at „setting → Management Interface setting“. The available options are described in the online help which can be accessed in the web interface. 5. Factory reset To reset the device configuration back to factory settings, follow these steps: 1.If the device is still running, power off the device by pressing the power button. The power LED should turn off after a few seconds. If the power LED still glows, hold the power button for 3 seconds to switch the device off. 2.Remove all network cables from the device. 3.Connect a display to the HDMI port (see figure number 1). 4.Connect an USB keyboard to any of the two USB ports (see figure number 2). 5.Power on the device by pressing the power button. 6.From the boot menu, select “Factory reset” and press enter. 7.The device will boot, reset everything to factory settings, and reboot again. 8.The device is now reset to factory settings. 9.Disconnect the display and keyboard. 2 1 Allegro Packets Network Software Additional notes: The Allegro Network Multimeter is a passively cooled high-performance device. Depending on the device environment, it may get warm. Enclosure temperatures up to 40-50°C are considered normal. Place the device on a heat conductive surface or make sure at least one side is not covered to provide enough air flow. Manual: The device manual can be accessed from the web interface. Each web section contains a button to access context specific documentation. The complete manual can be opened by clicking on the manual link in the menu.
