New Delhi, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 12 Health & Fitness Hindustan Times Media Marketing Initiative There isn’t any task that women cannot come out of with flying colours. But when it comes to their health, they often give it a blind eye. Dhriti Gandhi enlists some of the common health problems that are prominent among women and solutions that can help overcome them A astha Sharma has no ordinary life. Her hectic work schedule and household responsibilities occupy most of her time; leaving less time to rekindle her passions. But she hardly complaints as she feels ecstatic to effectively manage her personal and professional life. There are times when she feels low on energy and witnesses frequent back ache and nausea, but ignores such symptoms and moves on to performing her duties. Many women in India can relate with her as they too share a similar story. They too neglect their health problems and symptoms; without realising the consequences that may deteriorate the condition. Hormonal problems, obesity, dietrelated concerns, breast cancer and depression grabs the top spot in the list of common problems that women face. Besides this, issues related to fitness are also on the rise among females as compared to their counterparts. Inadequate amount of rest worsens the situation. Long working hours clubbed with oodles of stress, tireless travelling, busy household schedules and lack of exercise are the common result in unhealthy body. People who travel long distances also get more prone to unfit body and body aches. Gurgaon, being a hub for MNCs, records a large number of women travellers, who travel long distances daily. Body aches, stiffness and poor physical health is common among them. Neck pain, back pain and knee pain are some of the other problems that snail the pace of women in performing their chores. Since many people have desk jobs and also due to a sedentary lifestyle, anxiety and depression haunt the lives of the working women. Providing a relief in areas of fitness and other problems, Aadya Wellness in Gurgaon provides an amicable and empathetic environment to all. Their team of experts and doctors comprise of physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, spine specialists and lab facilities. The centre also specialises in spine and neuro rehabilitation and helps in providing a fitter way to life. Dr Vaibhav Talwar, Aadya Wellness, shares, “Regular exercise and an active lifestyle is the key to prevent pain-related disorders.” CANCER IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY COMMON AMONG WOMEN. THOUGH THERE ARE NO SPECIFIC WAYS IN WHICH ONE CAN PROTECT ONESELF FROM THIS DEADLY DISEASE, A VACCINATION WAS INTRODUCED A YEAR AGO TO PREVENT ITS OCCURRENCE. THIS VACCINE REDUCES THE CHANCES AND CAN BE GIVEN TO THOSE WITHIN THE AGE GROUP OF 15-35 YEARS. Keeping the frequent problems of women in mind, Gurgaon has dedicated a hospital only for women. W Hospital by Pratiksha is an all women hospital-based in Sector 56. This premium facility offers IVF and gynecology under one roof. Health experts also feel that there is a need for people to watch out their eating habits carefully. People live in the dilemma that they will not gain weight if they are travelling long distances. However, this along with their increased dependence on junk food and the tendency of skipping meals, avaoiding fruits and vegetables hinder their health and lead to lifestyle disorders such as obesity. Nutritionists feel that obesity is more common among young girls as they pay little attention to their eating habits and ignore working out. Agrees Dr Prerna Garg, Director, H.G. Sleepcure Solutions, “Due to stressful jobs, dependence on junk food, late nights and poor eating habits, young girls are getting more prone to diseases as compared to women. All these lead to inadequate sleep. This further causes high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Musculoskeletal disorders such as back pain, neck pain, joint pains and less exercise along with anaemia are some of the other common problems among the younger generation. This happens as a result of lack of nutrition, deficiency of Vitamin D and calcium, and lack of physical activity. Its a viscious circle.” Harmonal ailments pertaining to puberty, obesity, harmones-related obesity, acne, etc are also common among teens. Dr Seema Manuja, HoD, Sarvodaya Hospital, says, “Teenagers and young adults face higher chances of getting diabetes due to lack of consumption of a healthy diet, physical activities, sendentary lifestyle and too much dependence on junk food. It is therefore the duty of parents to promote physical activities among their children in the form of walking, yoga, dancing or any sport. Also, nothing can ensure a healthy body as home-cooked food and cutting off junk food.“ Tripti Tandon, Clinical Nutritionist, I Eat Right, also agrees that poor eating habits ruins health. She says, “In order to maintain good health, one should have three meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner, followed by three mid-meals in between in the form of fruits, a few biscuits and a cup of green tea between the three regular meals. Staying hydrated is essential and you can have a detox diet once a week to remove the toxics. This detox diet can be in the form of consuming only fruit and low-fat yogurt, cereal and milk, fruit and milk or a salt-free meal at night so to soothe your body. This diet also helps in removing the toxins from the body and helps in making you feel toned and light. Try to eat dinner by 7:30-8,” she further adds. Cancer is another common disease that is on the rise at an alarming rate among women. Doctors express their concern over its rise and the most common ones are cervical cancer and breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer that can occur at any age, but it’s much more likely after age 40, and the risk goes up as you get older. Unlike other diseases, it is difficult to control cancer. But medical science has now developed a technique to reduce its chances by introducing a vaccine. Dr Vikram Singh, Cancer and Bariatric Surgeon, Aarvy Hospital, shares, “Cancer is becoming increasingly common among women. Though there are no specific ways by which one can protect oneself from this deadly disease, a vaccination was introduced a year ago to prevent its occurrence. This vaccine reduces its chance among women and can be given to those within the age group of 15-35 years. Its effect lasts for a year. Since the invention is recent, no cases have been reported among those who have taken its shot.” Printed and distributed by PressReader P r e s s R e a d e r. c o m +1 604 278 4604 • ORIGINAL COPY • ORIGINAL COPY • ORIGINAL COPY • ORIGINAL COPY • ORIGINAL COPY • ORIGINAL COPY • CO PY R I G H T A N D P R OT E C T E D BY A P P L I C A B L E L AW
