Circulatory (Cardiovascular)
System
Includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood.
Transports nutrients and wastes to and from all
body tissues. The heart pumps blood throughout
the body.
Digestion System
Includes mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver,
pancreas, small and large intestines. Stores and
digests food; absorbs nutrients; eliminates waste
Endocrine System
Includes glands (such as adrenal, thyroid, and
pancreas), hypothalamus. Maintains homeostasis;
regulates metabolism, water and mineral balance,
growth and sexual development, and reproduction
Excretory System
Includes kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra,
skin, large intensine and lungs. Eliminates
waste; maintains water and chemical balance
Immune System
Lymph nodes and vessels, white blood
cells. Provides protection against
infection and disease
Integumentary System
Includes skin, hair, nails. Protects against
pathogens; helps regulate body
temperature
Muscular System
Includes muscles. Provides structure;
supports movement; moves substances
through body
Nervous System
Includes the brain, spinal cord, nerves, sense organs,
receptors. Controls and coordinates body movements
and senses; controls consciousness and creativity; helps
monitor and maintain other body systems
Respiratory System
Includes nose, pharynx, trachea, larynx, bronchi
and lungs. Carries air into and out of lungs, where
gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) are exchanged
Skeletal System
Includes bones. Provides structure;
supports and protects internal organs
