Following the huge success of BARNUM last year, we are looking for enthusiastic and committed young performers and technicians to take part in our fantastic production of the Lionel Bart classic, Oliver! Summer Youth Project offers great opportunities for young people to tread the boards where some of the biggest stars in show-business have performed! For two weeks, you could work with a professional creative team, make new friends and have lots of fun learning, rehearsing and performing this fantastic show! This year, our Project will be directed by none other than “serial Hastings panto legend” Ben Watson! ESSENTIAL INFORMATION: Whether you have been involved in Summer Projects in the past, or this is your first, please read the following information very carefully BEFORE filling in your application form. Hopefully this should answer any questions you may have. AUDITIONS: The audition date is SUNDAY 7 MAY 2017, 10am at The White Rock Theatre in Hastings – full details of times & casting opportunities will be available nearer the time. Please wear comfortable clothes that you can dance in, bring plenty to drink and a packed lunch if you are staying for Principal auditions. Please note: With the exception of the parts of “Oliver” and “Dodger”, you must be over 12 to be considered for a Principal part. Please also note: Only people auditioning will be allowed into the auditorium. RECALLS: If recalls are required for any of the Principal roles, these will take place on MONDAY 8 MAY 2017 at 6pm so please make sure we can contact you Sunday evening, or Monday morning. AGE: You must be aged between 8-19 yrs (or 16-19 yrs old for a technical position) on or before 1 August 2017 to be eligible for this Project. Project Dates: Monday 7 – Saturday 19 August 2017 YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF THESE DATES Because of the short production and rehearsal time, you have to be fully committed to the show for the whole period. REHEARSALS usually start at 10am and continue all day with a break for lunch, and a dinner break when evening rehearsals are required. Towards the end of the rehearsal process, the days will be longer and a finishing time of 10pm can be expected. More information to follow at a later date. There will be evening and matinee performances. Tickets go on sale early March. FEES: If you are offered a place, the fee for this year’s Project is £150 (20% sibling discount available) and must be paid in full by FRIDAY 7 JULY 2017. If you wish to pay by instalment, please contact Jo. The fee does not include any transport or meals, and you may be asked to bring in basic items of costumes e.g. shoes etc. – this will only be items that you will already have at home. THIS FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE PLEASE NOTE: Any member of the Summer Youth Project who has not paid, in full, by the start of the project, will be unable to participate. SUBSIDISED PLACES: There are a limited number of subsidised or free bursary places on offer for those who genuinely cannot afford the fees. Our Summer Youth Project is self-funding and non-profit making. The ethos behind it has always been to provide the best possible training and experience at the lowest possible cost to the local young people who get involved. The most important thing about Summer Youth Project is, that it is two weeks of extremely hard work that only succeeds if team effort is put into it from absolutely everyone involved. Join young orphan Oliver, on his adventures through London’s underworld, where he meets the Artful Dodger and is welcomed into a gang of child pickpockets led by the conniving, but charismatic, Fagin. Oliver is rescued by a kind and wealthy gentleman, much to the dismay of Fagin’s violent sidekick, Bill Sykes, who sends long-suffering but warm-hearted Nancy to bring him back, with tragic consequences.
