Job and Internship Outcomes for Sweet Briar College Engineering Graduates Katy Drews ’16 (B.S. engineering science, B.A. physics) is an analyst at Deutsche Bank. Katy completed her internship through a research project with Dr. Yochum. Lydia Fleck ’16 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding. Lydia also completed an internship at Newport News Shipbuilding. Ashley Federico ’16 (B.S. engineering science) works at Parlights, where she brings together her passion for theater with engineering. Ashley completed her internship with Degree Controls in New Hampshire. Kristen Frey ’16 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at NovaTech in Lynchburg, Va. Kristen also completed an internship at NovaTech. Nadirah Abdus-‐Sabur ’16 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMTI) in Lynchburg, Va. Nadirah also completed an internship at AMTI. Kelsey Barta ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory working in the Air and Missile Defense sector. Hannah Bower ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is working at NSWC Dahlgren Division, Platform System Safety Branch as a safety engineer. While at Sweet Briar, Hannah completed an internship at SimVentions in systems engineering, as well as an REU at Virginia Tech in cognitive communications. Kiera Cavalleri ’15 (B.S. engineering science, B.A. religion) has joined the U.S. Navy in the Civil Engineering Corps. Kiera completed an internship at Adaptive Design Association in New York City. She also completed a Senior Honors Thesis (“Water Treatment in Context: Resources and African Religions”). Kate Fanta ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is attending graduate school in systems engineering at the University of Virginia. Kate completed an REU in materials science at UVa. Allison Hassard ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is an associate customer support engineer at SWIFT Inc. in Culpeper, Va. Rosie Purvis ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is a continuous improvement specialist at Tenneco. She was formerly a mechanical controls engineer for XCOR Aerospace, where she also interned for a summer. Rosie also interned at Edison2 working on the Very Light Car. Epiphany Soward ’15 (B.S. engineering science) is a process engineer at BWX Technologies in Lynchburg, Va. She also completed her internship at BWX Technologies. Michelle Brown ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is a cost engineer at Skanska in Virginia Beach, Va. She completed her internship with HDR. Grace Caskey ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at BW Container Systems (FleetwoodGoldcoWyard), an automation and conveyer company in Lynchburg, Va. She also completed her internship with FleetwoodGoldcoWyard. Amanda Catlett ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at BWX Technologies in Lynchburg, Va. She also completed her internship with BWX Technologies. Emily Metzger ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at Textron in Texas. Textron is a Fortune 500 company that works in several areas, including producing Bell helicopters. Melissa Monterosso ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is in graduate school in bioengineering at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. Melissa completed research experiences in bioengineering at Clemson and WPI in her sophomore and junior years. Rachel Rose ’14 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at BWX Technologies in Lynchburg, Va. Rachel also completed her internship at BWX Technologies. Lindsay Davis ’13 (B.S. engineering science) is a process engineer at Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMTI), an advanced manufacturing and design company in Lynchburg, Va. Lindsay completed an internship at AREVA. Sarah Lightbody ’12, (B.S. engineering science) completed her Master of Science degree in systems engineering concentrating in human factors at the University of Virginia in 2014. She is now a business analytics and strategy consultant for IBM. Lauren Perhala ’12 (B.S. engineering science, B.S. math) is a mechanical engineer at NovaTech in Lynchburg, Va. NovaTech provides engineering and manufacturing services including mechanical design, analysis, testing and fabrication in support of nuclear, aerospace, defense and other industries. Lauren completed an internship at NovaTech and at the Cleveland Clinic. Caroline Sorensen ’12 (B.S. engineering science, B.S. environmental science) is pursuing a Master of Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management Program at Central European University in Budapest. Caroline completed a summer research experience in environmental engineering at Duke University. Madeline Wilson ’12 (B.S. engineering science) is a field engineer in the Pressure Management Group at Schlumberger in Denver, Colo. MaryAnne “Scooter” Haslow-‐Hall ’11 (B.S. engineering science) works as a process engineer (controls focus) for The Clorox Company at their GLAD Manufacturing facility in Amherst, Va. MaryAnne was also an intern for GLAD in the summer of 2010. Elizabeth Wilson ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is a systems engineer at BWX Technologies (an international energy products and service company) in their Quality Control Department. Elizabeth was also an intern for BWX Technologies in the summer of 2010. Katelyn James ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer for the U.S. Navy doing ordinance assessment at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Md. Cassidy Jones ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is a project administrator at BWX Technologies. Cassidy was an intern for BWX Technologies in the summer of 2010. Kristen Green ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is an engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne, an aerospace and defense company in Gainesville, Va., working with the Advanced Project Team on air-‐breathing rocket motors. Gina Miller ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is a graduate student at UC Riverside studying biomedical engineering. Sarah Jennings ’11 (B.S. engineering science) is an electronics engineer at the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) in Charlottesville, Va. Natasha (Weiss) Huff ’11 (B.S. engineering science) has started Smithfield Winery. Maxine Emerich ’10 (B.S. engineering science) works for Medtronic, a medical device company, as a project engineer. She previously worked for General Atomics at National Ignition Facility (NIF) Lawrence Livermore National Lab in California. While a student at Sweet Briar, Maxine completed a summer research experience with Prof. Pierce and also completed a joint internship between Sweet Briar and Lynchburg Sheltered Industries. Kaelyn Leake ’09 (B.S. engineering science, B.S. physics) earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California-‐Santa Cruz. While a student at Sweet Briar, Kaelyn completed an internship at Flowserve (flow management solutions). She is a faculty member in engineering at Sweet Briar. Sara (Smiley) Harrison ’09 (B.S. engineering science, B.S. math) completed her MEM (masters in engineering management) at Dartmouth in 2011. She is currently operations management leadership program associate at GE Aviation in Orange County, Calif. GE Aviation, an operating unit of GE, is a world-‐leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. While a student at Sweet Briar, Sarah completed two summer internships with Snyder Langston (construction). Amanda Baker ’09, P.E. (B.S. engineering science, B.S. environmental science) is currently an environmental engineer at Straughan Environmental in Maryland. While a student at Sweet Briar, Amanda completed an internship with Straughan Environmental. Christina (Johnson) Pappas ’08 (B.S. engineering science, B.S. physics) is currently a graduate student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Virginia. Christina earned a prestigious Department of Defense National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship. While a student at Sweet Briar, Christina completed internships at AREVA (nuclear energy) and at the NASA Wallops Flight Center.
