VERBS
What Is a Verb?
A verb is the part of speech that expresses action or state of being.

•
There are two types of verbs: action verbs (ran, jumped) and linking verbs
(is, was). A linking verb is also called a verb of being.
A transitive verb has an object, while an intransitive verb does not have an
object.
A verb phrase is made up of a verb and one or more helping verbs.
Two verbs joined by a conjunction are called a compound verb.
Choosing when the action of the sentence takes place will determine the
tense of the verb. Choose the present tense of the verb if the action in the
sentence is occurring now. Choose the past tense or the past participle of
the verb if the action in the sentence happened in the past.
The past tense or past participle of an irregular verb is not formed with ed or -d.
