Sol: 9+38-1 = 46 students.
2. In a row of 21 girls, when Monika was shifted by four places towards the right,
she became 12th from the left end. What was her earlier position from the right
end of the row?

3. In a row of boys, Deepak is seventh from the left and Madhu is twelfth from the
right. If they interchange their positions, Deepak becomes twenty-second from the

Sol: 12 + 22 – 1 = 33 boys
4. Manisha ranked sixteenth from top and twenty-ninth from the bottom among
those who passed an examination. Six boys did not participate in the competition
and five failed in it. How many boys were there in the class?
Sol: 16+29-1+6+5 = 55
5. In a class of 60, where girls are twice that of boys, Kamal ranked seventeenth
from the top. If there are 9 girls ahead of Kamal, how many boys are after him?
Sol: Let the number of girls be X.
X + 2X = 60 X = 20 20 boys and 40 girls
Kamal 17th rank 16 people ahead of him.
9 girls ahead 7 boys ahead (20-1-7) 12 boys after him.
