Dental Study Tour to Transylvania 15 – 21 September 2017 Peles Castle, Sinaia Romania boasts spectacular unspoiled countryside and rustic medieval villages, glorious fairytale castles, excellent food and wine and an eclectic ethnic mix. Transylvania in south east Romania is distinguished by its Saxon fortified villages, churches and castles. Accompanying tour leader Derek Mahony is national guide, Carmen Lakatos, a tour leader and dentist who has worked in the UK and Romania. Arrive in Timisoara, one of Romania’s most attractive urban areas with its beautiful public squares and parks. Check into your hotel before visiting a private dental practice in the afternoon. In the evening enjoy a traditional hearty Romanian dinner. seven walled citadels built in the 12th century by German settlers, known as Transylvanian Saxons. Explore its Old Town, which retains the Germanic grandeur of its earlier days. Enjoy lunch at the village museum before continuing to Brasov, Romania’s second city, and checking into your hotel with time at leisure. Take a city tour of Brasov next morning. In the afternoon visit a dental school in Bucharest and spend the rest of the day at leisure, with the option of visiting the open air ethnographic museum. Round off the day with a farewell dinner at the excellent Carul cu Bere restaurant. Next morning depart for the airport to connect with your return flight. Continue to Bran to visit the castle of Transylvania’s most notorious son, Dracula, and Rasnov Citadel. Return to Brasov for a traditional dinner with wine tasting. Next morning drive through dramatic mountainous landscapes to Sinaia. Visit magnificent Peles Castle, a fairytale vista of turrets rising above green meadows. Return to Brasov, stopping on the way in Busteni for the option of taking a cable car ride to the top of the mountain to see wind-carved structures (weather permitting). In the evening there will be CPD talks followed by dinner. Next day drive to Bucharest, an extraordinary architectural mix of Ceausescu’s follies, neoclassical beauty and ornate Orthodox churches. Check into your hotel and in the afternoon take a bus and walking tour of this lively city before having dinner in the old town.
